Calvan
Even after the update it still won't run. This is getting VERY VERY Infuriating. System info: OS: WIndows XP X64 with Service pack 2. *Videocard: Nvidia GEforce 9800 GTCPU: Intel Core2 Duo CPU E7400 @2.80 gHz (Shown twice in the device manager.) *- Service pack 3 gimps everything up causing me to have to reformat, I can't even run paint with it installed... secksegai
Would make sure to configure/disable FFDshow (both audio and video) when the fonv executable runs. (really should be done for FO3 too) Make sure you've got nothing else running in the background (no apps, no web browsers etc, even minimized) anything that would steal focus away from the window during the initialization process. Are you getting any particular errors with details?
Calvan
It's not showing any error messages what so ever. Steam simply closes it's self out. And I don't have FFDshow.
McclaudEagle
A few possible methods you may want to try: 1. Do a virus scan - Viruses are known to mess up game applications. 2. Try running Steam in offline mode. 3. Update everything. 4. System Restore - Restoring the computer to an earlier date might help. NOTE: It will wipe out anything you've done since the last restore point. I'll keep looking.

Calvan
Yeah. Must be nice.Aparently service pack 3 for 64 bit doesn't even exist. Figures. I don't mean to repeat myself but my computer is more than good enough. And steam is being an unstable lump of crap. bben46
@Calvan: Even if you buy the retail dvd version, you still must go through steam to register the game. When you try to install, it will automatically attempt to access the steam site, and if you do not have an account already it will walk you through setting one up before it will allow NV to finish installing. Once you have finished installing, and steam has finished updating the game. Then you can go to offline mode to play. We are getting a lot of whining from pirates that can't get the game to work about this.
Honeybiscuit
I give steam about a 1 and a half to remain in existance. Reason is as stated about lack of customer support and poor sever quality. and mainly Dictatorship. In contrast you are not able to install the COD BO unless u have steam. sad for them.
