medic975
Hi all, I am trying to toy around with the GECK to edic a companion mod. I want to change the face, body, and hair of a model and I'm having a really hard time finding a tutorial that will explain to me how to load it and modify it. I have tried loading the mods esm in the geck, but it always says I am trying to load multiple active files at once and aborts. When I try to load just the esm for the mod I cannot make sense of what all is there or how to use the info. I'm mostly a GECK virgin and don't have much in the way of scripting or modding experience and the GECK Wiki is less than helpful. Basically I'm wanting to use one of Lings or Mikoto's hairs on the NPC and change the body from a type3BB to either Beware of Girls body or the original type 3. I appreciate any help that I can get on this. I love the parent mod except for the body. I think BB bodies look ridiculous.
WastelandAssassin
changing the hair was already explained in another threadin it, i have presented one way, and another member has presented another wayjust choose the one that fits you betterthe thread can be found herei'm sure this will help you with that part as for changing the body model, first you need to get the body model that you would like to use, and place the meshes into the game folder (if it's not the body model that you would like to use, just put it in a different folder)for making the NPC use that body model, you don't actually change it in the NPCthe body model used is determined by the raceso if the companion is from a new race, it is quite easy to changein the Object Window, open Actor Data -> Race, and open the race that you want to changein the new window of the race, open the Body Data tab, and just set the models to the models that you want to use, and the same for the textures as for changing the NPCs face, you need to go to Actors -> NPC -> the race of the NPC, and then open the NPCin the NPCs window, go to the Face Advanced tab, where you will be able to change all the features of the NPCs face i hope this helpsand if you have any questions, you are welcome to ask
medic975
Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to know. I'll look through the other thread you linked and see if it helps me with the details. I appreciate the help.

medic975
That you did. The only problem I'm having is saving it as the mod I'm trying to modify is an esm. I tried saving all the files I used into a separate save esp and using that in game, but it doesn't appear to be working.
WastelandAssassin
what specifically isn't working??i mean, you change the companion, save it as a new esp, and activate it when you load the game, and the changes don't show??
medic975
That's where I think I went wrong. I thought I was saving it to the original esp. Thanks for the patience. I'm terribly new to this. Once you make the new esp do you keep the source esp and esm files checked in FOMM before loading?
WastelandAssassin
well, if you make the changes in the companion file, it could workif you make a new file, then the other files (the companion file and the cosmetic mods, or whatever other mods you used when making the new file) are it's masters, and therefor must be loaded before it
