Creating a Custom Race, Questions/Help

i have tried to create a custom race, i can see it in G.E.C.K. but it does not show up in game.

i use the Console Command "`showracemenu" and it is not listed under 'Race'.

...any ideas as to why?

i will keep playing with it, but i feel completely defeated. =_=ll

Edit: After i save the file, it is saved as a .esp, is that an issue?

And if it does have to be saved as a Master file type, how do i do that?

In G.E.C.K. under Race, "Playable" is checked

really??

because from what i have seen in the GECK Wiki, it is the only thing that is needed, to make a race usable

do you have FO3Edit??

maybe if you do a master update it will work??

i can't really say, but it might......

FO3-Edit?.....what is that?

i have Mod Manager, G.E.C.K., and FO3 was updated to 1.7 about..2 days ago.

FO3Edit is a program that allows you to edit plugins (esp and esm files) without the need to open the GECK

it allows you to do many things, like add or remove masters from plugins, and creating patches and other useful things

just search for it here on the Nexus, it's quite easy to find (search for FO3Edit in the name, and if it has several pages of results, just organize by most endorsed, it should easily be first)

but are you absolutely sure that you have created your race properly, and activated it when you loaded the game??

because it sounds like you did everything right, and it should be working.......

i launched G.E.C.K., loaded Fallout 3.ems, selected Race from under "Character" tab. Created a NEW race under Editor ID.

i then filled out all of the Body, Face, and Text Data Tabs, and made sure the 'Playable' box was checked. Saved it, the added it on Fallout 3 Mod Manager, and launched it from there. (many of the Meshes were already filled out, can i leave them as defaults or do they have to be changed?)

The character race is shown under G.E.C.K. and even FOMM recognizes it, but the game itself does not seem to.

....i know i can use Mod races, like Shojo because it works flawlessly.

....does it matter what order it is in on FOMM?

Also, is FO3Editor necessary to make a custom race work?

If a mesh is missing will a race now appear during gameplay or not show up?

..i am trying to figure out what could be wrong.

well, you don't need FO3Edit in order to make a race mod

and i don't think you need to change the meshes or textures for a new race to work (and it wouldn't make sense if you needed to)

as for missing meshes, i think that you would be able to choose the race, but it wouldn't show up normally (meaning that you can make a character of that race, but there will be a mesh problem when you look at the character)

maybe what you need is really to make it an esm file

i have read that FO3Edt can do it, so maybe it's best for you to get it anyway

i'll try to find a good explanation on how to do it, and post it here
