Tiber Septim Hotel Crash

Okay, so I'm trying to get into the Tiber Septim hotel for a quest in the Gold Crest mod. Every time I try to enter the lobby, my game crashes. However, I tried entering the lobby on my other two characters' saves and it worked just fine. Needless to say, there must be an npc or some other alienated scrap of data in that cell that's bothering my game. Can someone help? Thanks

When characters are displaced from their proper locations the default cell they go to is the Tiber Septim Hotel. It's likely that some mod added NPCs have been sent there and it's causing the crash. In rare cases some vanilla NPCs will even get displaced and end up there.

 

I suggest you start disabling mods until you can enter the Tiber Septim Hotel. Then you'll know which mod has caused the issue. You can then save and reload that mod and all should be well, at least for now. However you will lose any progress made regarding the mod you disable, naturally. I cannot guarantee the problem will not happen again. I recommend you start by disabling the mod in question, The Golden Crest. I've heard other reports of pirates from this mod being displaced to the Tiber Septim Hotel. So there is obviously an error that randomly shows up with this mod.

 

If you want more information about NPCs being displaced I suggest you search the BethSoft Forums for other similar reports. I've read plenty of them over the years about weird occurrences at the Tiber Septim Hotel.

As bazaar as it may seem, I've stripped the game down to its basic elements and my first character still can't enter the hotel. I've walked into it plenty of times before just for the amusement of seeing what monstrocities the game desides to spawn and let fester in there, but it was only until recently that it's started doing this. Oh well, I guess the mod's a bust for my main, I'll just run it on the others. Thanks for the help anyway

A CTD on cell entry is often because of missing meshes and perhaps missing textures. Some of the oddities ending up in the hotel could be missing meshes and textures. It is possible that even with all of your mods disabled, the custom meshes and textures you have installed are messing up a vanilla Oblivion creature which has ended up in the Tiber Septim Hotel. So then you end up with a crash.
