Republic of New Carson - New town, guns, armor, quests and more!

Stupideye

Right now, we haven't actually started on the NPC packages. We figured we'd wait until we can get the exterior working 100%, and then we can start doing the packages and implementing questlines and dialogue.

However, Stupideye is out on vacation at the moment, so the GECK-related stuff is on another short hiatus. I've been trying to reach Disaster (our modeler) as well, but haven't been able to get a reply.

But, I'm still working on the more media-related stuff right now, some advertisements and the like. I'm tempted to post some stuff but I'd like to keep most of it under wraps until release, as to avoid ruining the novelty and the like.

I'll definitely still post things in the near future, though. Maybe some redone weapon textures or something.

In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming, and tell your friends! You guys are the sole reason we're developing the mod, (Well, also because it's been pretty fun!) and we could use all the ideas we can get!

WHy don't you have the PC hitch a ride to New Carson in a vertibird? You could have it surrounded by Reds upon landing; they confiscate it "for the good of the state" (trapping the PC there for a short while, and preventing them from using airstrikes- maybe even having the Reds use it against you) and welcome you as a "valued comrade" of the Republic. Maybe the Whites then steal it from the Reds, sparking a war. After all, the arrival of a fully functional and combat-ready vertibird would utterly destroy the delicate equilibrium you seem to have set up b/w the Reds and the Whites- the Whites go from subversive rivals to fullblown rebels practically overnight in a bid to gain power. Then you could have New Reno (backed by corrupt NCR officials) moving in to support the Whites in an attempted landgrab. The upside would be that the NCR wouldn't be as squeaky clean as it seems to be in the Mojave- there's so much talk of the corruption back home- brahmin barons bribing officials and bullying small fries into selling their land for a pittance, Kimball and his cabal running an increasingly militaristic/imperialistic regime, and so on- but you never really get to see it.

This is a good idea. Although we may not end up using a vertibird, I do like the idea of having some sort of "ultimate" weapon appear and knock everything out of order. I actually really like this idea, could justify a full-out civil war in the area.

Are you looking for anymore Geck specialists? I've been working on mods since FO3. Ca navmesh, full interiors (lighting, deco, boxing the level). Still working with AI packages.

We might be, although I think Stupideye was intent on being the only GECK operator on the team. We'll have to wait until he's back from vacation. Although.. Do you know how to do exteriors?

What do you mean by exteriors? Ive dont some terrain work, hooking up doors from int to ext and back forth. Last I know they still haven't fixed the LOD problem for exteriors.

So to get around that we always need to build an exterior inside an enclosed area, say open area of town ruble, a canyon or such. If they did fix it, I don't think computer could take that trip generating an LOD field.

Ya I was looking through the pics, and he's definately got the interiors started. I specifically like to spice them up, make the areas feel lived in and unique from one another.

Hey folks, some of you might be wondering what is going on with this mod. We haven't posted content in quite some time! After much thought, we have decided to switch over to the Source engine for multiple reasons. Here is our news post on Moddb:

While switching over to the Source engine might not seem like a good idea, let us explain why we've decided to go this route.

1. Workflow. Gamebryo is just, to put it rather bluntly, a really awkward and clunky engine to use. It's an outdated engine, and becoming increasingly so as the time passes. Plus, it's hard to work with in general. Although we will be limited in some ways, and despite Source's own limitations, we feel that the Source engine will give us a more creative freedom, and allow us to portray the story and mood more effectively.

2. Importing assets. We feel that the Source engine allows us to import our own assets much easier, which will result in a lot more custom assets and a much quicker production rate.

3. Scripting. While we haven't done a whole lot of scripting in the GECK at this point, it is admittedly, extremely painful to learn and do. The Source engine again will allow us to accomplish much more in a much shorter period of time.

4. Experience. We've been working in the Source engine for years on other side-projects, and we've developed our own work flow and methods while working within the engine. So we feel that working with an engine that we are already comfortable with will result in an overall better final product, which results in a much better experience for both us, the developers, and for you, the players.

As always, we'd appreciate your comments and concerns on the situation. Please let us know what your thoughts are on this.

We would like to thank you all for the tremendous support so far, and we hope you continue to keep track of our mod by following it on moddb.
