Basic Mods for New DA:O Player

Hey guys,

I just bought a copy of DA:O Ultimate Edition and one of the things I am most excited about is modding the game. I absolutely loved modding Oblivion and was well versed in both using mods and creating mods for it. However, as a new DA:O player, I'm a bit lost. I don't really want to create mods for the game but I do want to use mods. I'm no stranger to Nexus so finding mods isn't the problem. The problem is that I can't find a list (like many of the recommended mod list found for Oblivion) to help me get started. I know it isn't recommended to mod the game too heavily before playing it for at least one playthrough, but I do want to add basic mods that no player should be without.

So are there any "necessary" for DA:O? For example, the Unofficial Patches for Oblivion where a must, no matter if you were a veteran player or a newbie.

Thanks,

Welcome to the DA Nexus, xFrancis!

Here's a link to a few perspectives on this topic (mine is the third post, but there are lots of others as well):

"Good DA Mods (opinions)".

As you can read in almost every single thread here about this subject; Your FIRST playthrough should be totally UNmodded!

The game really is that good, and your enjoyment of the mods themselves will be significantly increased if you have a full appreciation for what they're doing.

Happy Gaming!

"Your FIRST playthrough should be totally UNmodded!" - Absolutely! This is exactly what i am doing now

I'll start modding DA:O after i finish the whole game and it's DLCs.

Welcome xFrancis91!

I'm also new but interested for both DA:O and Oblivion. Since you are a "well versed" Oblivion modder, perhaps you can give me some good ideas of Oblivion :teehee:

Enjoy the game!

@ax1f; No need to wait until after you complete all the DLC before modding. I would even say that the "inside the DA:O timeline" ones (WK and RtO) could wait until your second or later playthroughs. TSP, however, is an essential element and should not be postponed!

After the completing the OC unmodded once, and then probably a second time with several different mods installed, you can then "make an informed decision" as to whether or not to use any mods when you move on to the additional modules.

Phew, final exams are over and done with some I finally have time to play.

Thanks for the feedback, greetings, and responses guys; looks I'll be playing my first character in an unmodded Ferelden. After that, I'll see what I wanna add to DA:O.

@ax1f

Modding Oblivion was a hobby for me for a long time actually. I learned a lot about gaming and computers from reading tutorials about modding Oblivion and then putting those things to practice. A few of my tips are: always read the readme included in most mods before even attempting to install it, familiarize yourself with Wrye Bash and OBMM, if you are inexperienced then download your mods slowly so that any potential conflicts can be rooted our easier (after a while I was able to know if conflicts would arise just be reading the mod's descriptions lol), and be courageous (meaning don't be afraid to just try something for the hell of it, that's how you learn).
