Companion Interaction

Like many People who have this game I have a certain companion mod that extends the allowed amount of companions to, well all of them.

But one thing that annoys me about having them all there is that they don't talk to each other and they don't comment on enough things.

I request a mod that expands the companion's interactions with each other, the various factions in the Mohave and the enviroment around them,

Like how everyone could comment on that weird dog following you, like Arcade does if EDE is in your party when you recruit him.

Yes, having them talk more often would be great. And having them interact with one another would be even better. I think it adds a great deal to the experience of having companions with you when they do interact.

The big problem/issue with making that happen, of course, is having dialogue available to work with that makes for good encounters. I am currently building a new companion for NV, Willow, and I plan to have her talk to at least one of the other companions initially and probably more than that eventually, but a lot of it will depend on the dialogue available to work with. I'll probably start with Cass since she has the most. Although I can imagine some good opportunities with Veronica as well; I haven't sat down to start writing any of that dialogue yet so haven't really looked at the guys' lines yet for what might be possible there. I have experience doing this. I did it with my Charon mod in FO3. He talked to Clover, Jericho and Sydney while following the player.

This isn't, of course, what you were asking for exactly, but it is a companion talking to one (or more) of the vanillas while the companions follow the player around. Her name is Willow. I am hoping to be done with her in January. It's taking me so long because she has a couple of quests and a lot of dialogue and there's still a lot to do. I think I'm about 40% of the way there.

I would also like to see more dialogue either amongst companions or with my player, I loved in fallout 3 how Fawks would make random comments as we trotted along, about the moon etc he was quite poetic lol.

I especially would like more from Boone, who is my most constant comp. I'm using the companion sandbox mod which does give him at least a bit of life but he still stands mute most of the time, which is a pity because I adore his accent [ I'm English so its a real treat]

I expect its very difficult to find very similar voice actors so it doesnt sound naff, I understand also that hes the strong silent type with a very troubled past which probably adds to his morose demeanor, but as I'm a female player, surely trotting along behind 'my behind' must have some effect eventually?!?!

Gawd! I need a real life!!

Yes companion banter would be a nice touch, but seeing as how the developers never intended for you to have more than one "talking" companion at a time (since you hopefully don't have long winded conversations with ED-E)

So most likely banter between vanilla companions seems less likely, unless you want to try using silent mp3s and a force subtitles script so you can "hear" banter between two silent characters.

However what could be easier is using voices from movies, games, interviews, cartoons, etc. to give a semblance of companions interacting.

(I assume we can use voice clips, ever since I saw the "ED-E The movie buff" mod, where he uses sound clips from movies.)

At the moment, I'm gathering lots of sound clips to make a funny sarcastic alien in-game with a voice of a Jack Nicolson impersonator, I of course cannot mod at all, not even a tiny bit. So don't expect to see the alien unless someone volunteers to make him, however I may also use clips from invader zim and have the two aliens banter back and forth at one another to comedic effect.

No, you're absolutely right. They should talk. It makes me nutz that they don't say anything. Cass talks, but the others are so quiet. I hate it. I played with them long enough to understand what they were like and to get a feel for how they worked and then I ditched them and play with my own modded ones because of it. Their silence is too depressing. I mean, it's great that they have stories and all, but I just don't find them fun to have around.

I think one (if not all) of the sandbox or idle (probably the idle where they smoke, scratch, flip the bird, etc.) mods gives you the generic banter if that helps? I have the Charsima based followers mod and a sandbox or idle mods that Wayne put me onto and found that they will sometimes just talk to each other about Primm having a new sheriff and that it will keep the Powder gangers away, or discussing about hearing that someone went into the Luck 38 - which is odd because it was them! That sort of thing. Of course it would be nice if they said how nice each other looked in that armour, or what a good shot you made in our fight, etc. :whistling:

I found it strange that they never conversed with each other, but the thing that really annoyed me the most was the standing about like morons - that was when Wayne posted the links in response to my question (can't recall which ones sorry) which I was happy with. And the occasional generic banter, was a nice surprise too.
