hair and hats

I just downloaded a custom hair pack and I'm looking to fix up one of the hairstyles so that it will display the hair while wearing a hat (as opposed to the crew-cut hair that it changes to when I equip a hat). Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to go about this? I'd like to edit the hair mesh itself instead of going through EVERY piece of headgear and changing the slots it takes up, but i'm not sure how. I hope I was clear enough with my problem. Thanks!

Hi Zeus, all hairs have one of the vanilla adaptations of the hair, If you open the nif files in NifSkope, it is the node called "Hat". I chose that vanilla Hat hair because it clips less than the others with all kind of helmets, hats, hoods and cowls, but you can replace it with another one you prefer just by doing this:

* open my hair file in NifSkope

* select the "Hat" node and remove it

* open another NifSkope intance with the vanilla hair that contains the Hat hair you want and select the "Hat" node. Right click and select "Copy branch"

* go to my hair file, select the root node, right click and select "Paste branch".

* save my hair file with the changes

Now you should see the Hat hait you want when wearing a hat :)

Haha, I just replied to your other topic with similar instructions if not long winded. Anyway, the default styles are packed in the BSA files as in New Vegas "ETCWHATEVER".bsa. You can unpack them with Fallout Mod Manager. Under Tools there will be a BSA Browser. Open up the meshes bsa and you should find the hair meshes in there that have actual Hat NiTriShapes.
