My Custom Build Computer Specs:

Recommended Posts

Here is a list of what my custom build computer should be like:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64x bit (Buying in the UK. Only Ultimate can change language and it is cheaper than Home Premium in Denmark!)

Motherboard: MSI X58A-GD45

Graphic Card: MSI N580GTX-M2D15D5 (1.5 GB)

CPU: Intel Core i-7 950 3.06GHz

RAM: OCZ Gold 3 x 2 GB

PSU: OCZ MODXSTREAM PRO 700 WATT PSU (I think 700 watt is enough for my spec?)

HDD: Not known yet, will probably do some research.

Case: Anyone knows a good looking, full tower case? :)

Price: No money left :P

Please give me some feedback on what you think. Maybe you get inspired as well, i just completed rebuilding an old computer i had into a new case, so now i wan't more! :D

Hi,

MB:

Maybe you want to have a look for a motherboard with USB3.0? I know there are some from Gigabyte available. But i don't know the prices at the moment.

Ram:

I wont buy OCZ, but that's just a personal thing. I would suggest if you have a look for Kingston HyperX. I own only this brand, but the have the best compatibility for my Asus Maximus.

PSU:

Same with the Ram. 700W should be fine, you can calculate how much your computer will need at bequiet, there is a PSU Calculator.

The OCZ has only 2x12V (25A). That means it is a "true" 600W PSU. The bequiet be quiet Straight Power E8 CM 680W for example has 4x12V (with max of 18A for one rail and at a max of 680W for all 12V rails combined).

Case:

Lian Li has some nice ones, but they are very expansive.

Don't look just at the wattage; the amperage on the 12 V rails mean much much much more than just raw wattage. You want at least a triple 18 amp rails, or a single rail with at least 45 amps. Any less than that and you're likely to stress the power supply with that setup, especially if you add stuff later on down the road or if you overclock.

On the RAM, I buy exclusively Corsair for gaming and high performance systems, and there's a reason for it: reliability. I have never seen a corsair stick go bad. I would also stay away from OCZ on their power supplies (this is a personal opinion that says nothing about the company), as I'm a big fan of power supplies made by SeaSonic, which are namely SeaSonic (duh), Corsair, and Antec. PC Power and Cooling also makes a rock solid power supply. Again, personal preference on my part.

As for the case, I like Silverstone right now. Lian li is good, but I don't like a lot of their layouts. Cooler Master is also good too if you get the right case. I use a Cooler Master Stack 830.

Thanks for the feedback. What's wrong with OCZ?

I have to admit that I'm a bit confused here Edited by Feltmarskal

Hi,

there is northing "wrong" with OCZ. OCZ is known for building cheap parts for the "overclocker" market. So you have parts build for high speed but they don't last very long. (My personal opinion)

Problems with OCZ Ram is "known". If you read tests from different computer magazines mostly OCZ is causing trouble. It is explained with the fact that they use cheap parts. You can try them and if the modules are working for you it is fine, if not send them back.

Okay, hope it helps,

Paxan

I'm lucky to have 2 years of warranty, because i bought the OCZ PSU for another project. I'll report back if it will break, but that will probably take months if not years. :P

I'm currently looking for a case somewhere, but i don't seem to be able to find one. I hear so much about Antec 1200, but i don't want it. I wan't something that is a bit more personal, maybe you understand me?

Edit: Just changed my opinion on Antec 1200 lol

A personal case, yeah i can understand you.

There are some nice individual ones out there, but mind they aren't that cheap. The Antec 1200 is a very good case, but you are right it is like a VW Golf of the cases.

My favourite brand is Lian Li because i like alloy cases. The Lian Li PC-X1000B is a nice big tower for 300€. More expansive is the Lian Li - PC 888 Serie with 500€ or the Thermaltake Level 10 for the same price. The Lian Li PC-A70FB Big is with 189€ a nice option.

Fun thing is that i drive VW Golf (New Model) so I changed my mind a bit on the Antec 1200. I asked a friend who have absolutely no interests in computers and only plays a few games and he said it was very cool. So i'd think about buying it. It's not that expensive either.

:whistling:

The Antec has a very good quality, now sharp edges or something like that. It is very big so can easy install new stuff.

Have fun with building your new computer.

Paxan,

Yeah i thought that too and thanks. :)

Do you live near Hamburg, because I'm going there this weekend visiting some Germans friends and you might maybe now some good PC stores, where i could save a little? I don't think Mediamarkt or Saturn are the places i should.

After some research i changed the PC's specs a bit:

Antec 1200 case - 1210,50 DKK

MSI X58 Platinum SLI - 1864 DKK

MSI GeForce GTX 570 1280MB PhysX - 2699 DKK

Antec PSU CPX Form Factor CP-850 EC - 896,50 DKK

Antec TwoCool Fan (Blue) - 280 DKK

Kingston HyperX RAM 3 x 2 GB - 710 DKK

Windows 7 Ultimate - 618 DKK

Samsung HD103SJ 1TB HDD - 428 DKK (I already own this, so i didn't count it into the overall price)

Overall price:

8278 DKK - 1.110,47 EUR - 1.473,27 USD - 936,96 GBP

Over 6 months, i'll use approximately 1379,66 DKK - 185,12 EUR - 245,60 USD - 156,20 GBP. That looks fine to me, but i'll definitely buy the parts faster because of excitement. :D
