Mod Malfunction Help

Yeah, tomorrow may be best.

But please understand that there is no such thing as "Load Order", (in the conventional sense) with the Eclipse engine.

It uses a strict alphanumeric-by-folder-by-subfolder process to search for files, and will use the LAST one it finds that has the correct/appropriate name. In general (and we're not talking ".dazip" or ".override" mods here) first it looks in the vanilla game folders, then in the "\Program Files....\override" folder. Only a very, VERY few mods should ever be placed there, and those will have explicit instructions to do so in their Descriptions.

Then the game looks under the user's profile for the "\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override" folder.

Now it can get more interesting for many players.

Eclipse looks in that folder alphanumerically and says,

Any files here I should use?

Yep. Ok, tag that one for use.

Any with the same name as one previously tagged?

Yep. Toss previous one and use this one.

Any sub-folders?

Yep. Ok, I'll go through THEM (again, alphanumerically.)

Any files I should use here?

Yep. Tag those for use.

Any with the same name as one previously tagged?

Yep. Toss previous one and use this one.

Rinse/Repeat going through all sub-folders alphanumerically.

Got that? The mod "AGreatSword.uti" that happens to be in the subfolder "\Swords" will NOT be used if there's a file named "AGreatSword.uti" in a sub-folder (at the same-or-lower level) called "\Weapons", but it will be used if it's in a sub-folder called "\XtraSwords", since "S" comes before "W" comes before "X".

Remember: the LAST file found wins!

So the EXACT SAME SET of mods might result in different ones being enabled or disabled depending on what the mod author decided to name the subfolders (if any) or what the player decided to name them when s/he placed them in the "\override" folder. Or the order in which they happened to be copied into the main folder, for those who don't bother to keep each mod in its own sub-folder in order to make troubleshooting and removal easy instead of a nightmare.

My mods are in their own sub-folders, for the most part, however, some mods (such as DA Redesigned) automatically installed straight to the Override folder and for some others I just forgot so that's on me. I'll have a look through to see what might have turned Ser Gilmore into a women (I wouldn't mind if she wasn't using the 'Microsoft Annie', or whatever, to speak) when I get back. However, I really don't recall downloading anything that would have this effect. Thanks for your assistance with these problems I've been having.

Regards,

Aidan

Good. That's a best practice for sure. But it also means that you determine the name for each mod's folder, and so control (even if accidentally) which of two identically-named files in your mods will actually be used.

Glad you figured out the hiccough with Alistair, I'm sure s/he was confused for a bit.
