Asian Race Mod

I've taken the basic human head NIF and tweaked it to give it epicanthal folds (Asian eyes) with the intention of assigning the new NIF to a new race called Nihonjin. After I assign the NIF, the CS crashes whenever I try to open the Facegen portion of the Race editing window. If I save the Nihonjin.esp with the new head NIF assigned and start Oblivion, it will crash when I choose Nihonjin race during the character creation part of a new game.

I can get the NIF to work if I name it headhuman.nif and overwrite the default NIF in the Imperial directory, but then all races have asian eyes. That's not what I'm after. I just wanted more variety of human races in Oblivion.

I'm curious if anyone knows how I can make this NIF work for only one race. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with archive invalidation. I haven't worked with that up to this point, apart from changing it by following directions for someone else's mod.

Perhaps there's a different way altogether to make this work. Anyone?

Have you tried copying the "basic human head" and going for it from there?

but is "headhuman.NIF" the original\default filename of the human head NIF? if so have you tried naming it something else(this really shouldnt have anything to say)?

from my experience you should check all the basics, thats often where you forget a tiny thing making everything go straight to oblivion......

by the way, post here when you send out the mod, would be cool to have some variations..... ;)

Amen to that!

The game has four human races, three of them are white, and Imperials and Bretons are nearly indistinguishable from each other. Speaking as a Caucasian who looks at mostly other Caucasians all day, this strikes me as a very stupid idea when the human race comes in so many lovely colors and feature sets.

I figured it out. When I finish shaping the new face satisfactorily I will upload it as a new playable race. I have to script it for the game to start though. The dark elf in the prison doesn't recognize my char, never insults him, and the main quest doesn't start. Shouldn't be a big problem though.

There's a custom race fix used in the Dremora and Mystic Elf playable races. Here's a link to its page on the Oblivion Mod Wiki:

Given that it's already been used in more than one race mod, I'm sure you could get permission to merge it with yours if you wanted.

You won't need permissions, its a stand alone mod. I've downloaded and used it when i tried making a race. Just when you release the mod say "this mod requires ...... find it here"

More hairstyles are included with the Han race, including the one you described. I just showed three types in the screenies. My bad.
