tylerk13
Hey guys I have already posted a thread like this but i thought I re-do it with more serious information. The setting is in a huge slave run mafia land. They all dress like the Omerta's or people from the Tops. You wake up after being a courier to deliver some equipment for the mafia. Too bad you are mistaken for a slave. Their are several smaller towns in the wasteland free from the mafia, but they do get their money taken from them. and they run shops owned by the mafia. a rebellious campground is set up south west of the mafia main base. they (obviously) start to get larger and larger. You are faced with 2 decisions. join the mafia, get money, women, and power. Or join the rebels, less money, less women, but maybe a bit more powerful. if you are interested in helping please reply that you are, i will send you a direct message with scripted so far. I need people that specialize in textures, quests, and interiors. I can work on creating cpu's and outdoor map layout. In need for some writers to write with me! Follow this topic for updates! Mishaxhi
"The setting is in a huge slave run mafia land." Where? "They all dress like the Omerta's or people from the Tops." Why? Are suits either common or practical in the wasteland? Every huge mod undertaken after a flash of inspiration is a noble pursuit but as a person who is frequently approached to try and be recruited for these kinds of things, you need more meat before looking for other team members. What you have here is a concept surrounding the idea that you're gonna pit underdog good guys vs corrupt bad guys in a land with some towns and shops and quests, into which the player is inadvertently thrust. This is the absolute bare bones of a story/setting - I'm not saying it's bad because it's unoriginal, it's certainly a concept that has worked hundreds of thousands of times before - I'm saying there's just not enough there to inspire anybody to join. I post this because I want you to succeed, not because I want you to give up - don't cling to this non-concept which is so prevalent in many forms of media that it's almost a trope. Start smaller, think of something new, something clever, that hasn't been done before, and do it to the best of your abilities. Doesn't matter how small it is, just make it as well as you possibly can, put everything into it. Once you have it, use that as your concept, and post it here. Others will see that you have the skills, drive and creativity to lead them into creating something great, and they will join. This is something that absolutely nobody who has previously desired to start one these enormous projects has ever done, at least the numerous that have approached me (they all bore messages very similar to yours) and they all failed. And people in the Mafia usually dress like businessman. i thought that was pretty self explanatory.
Mishaxhi
And people in the Mafia usually dress like businessman. i thought that was pretty self explanatory. Well, it isn't, what exactly the "mafia" is is up in the air when 90% of factions in Fallout resemble some sort of mafia. Mafias are just criminal gangs, groups of men who don't fear authority and are willing to take the risks to get what they want. Suits are not intertwined with that, they were worn by Italian/Sicilian criminal groups in the US as they were fit for purpose at the time, I'm just wondering whether a group operating under completely different circumstances in a completely different time facing completely different challenges might opt for something else. Ignore the suits, they don't matter, if you want it blunt - this doesn't seem very well thought out at all. You're free to do as you like but if you want to be the next Project Brazil or Frontier, I would highly recommend scaling it back for now until you have something concise down. Plus fallout is a futuristic 1950's, ratpack, Frank Sinatra, and back then EVERYONE WOULD WEAR SUITS.

I'm just trying to help, you're obviously completely unwilling to take advice or shift your view on anything, and the fact that you're this quick to anger over a few simple queries tells me you're incapable of taking advice on board or being an effective communicator, both of which are absolutely required when you wish to lead a team of the size that you will need. Best of luck I guess.

For example, i walk up to someone. "Your fat. You should work out. Just helping you out." just being a jerk.
TheSHO1BANG
No one here is being rude to you, there's a difference between rudeness and bluntness. And you need blunt advice when undertaking a mod, any mod, especially your first one, and especially one that seems so ambitious as this one. Have you done anything in the GECK before? Can you script? What are your areas of skills in the toolset. Also, I'd advice that you watch tutorials and try to create some smaller stuff first, as quest mods can get incredibly complex. Make sure you grow your skills in the GECK first, this isn't just about writing a story, or some dialogue. Seddon4494 on YT has some very useful tutorial videos that helped me out figure out the basic features of the GECK, and from then on you can explore on your own and learn on your own. But you NEED to master the basics first.Lastly, I'd suggest not posting something like this before you actually have anything to show. Mishaxhi makes a very valid point, vagueness and lack of any examples of your work won't attract anyone. And you shouldn't get worked up or offended by this sort of advice, if anyone bothers to respond in detail, he/she does it because they have a reason that's more than simply being rude to you. They actually want to help you because they've had experience in modding.
