Put everything from the mods data file into the games data file. And then launch oblivion and chech the box next to the mod in Data Files (Data files is a thing you click on thats below Play.

If this isnt working, it would be vista.

The exclamation points you mention are missing resources, meshes specifically, and are likely the result of UAC, Windows security, interfering. The other possibility is an improperly, or incompletely, installed mod(s).

Are you using Windows 7 or Vista? Did you install Oblivion to the default directory of Program Files? If you answered yes to to both then you are likely experiencing problems due to UAC, Windows security. Windows doesn't like it when an application, program, or even the user, attempts to alter files in a protected directory. UAC sees this a potential security threat and treats it as a malicious attack and blocks the action from happening. To prevent this you need to install Oblivion outside the jurisdiction of UAC, to an unprotected directory. A popular and suitable location is <drive letter>:\Games\Oblivion. For information on proper installation I suggest you follow Bben's Reinstall Procedure.

If that's not the case then you have either improperly installed the mods, therefor needing to completely uninstall and reinstall the mods properly according to the ReadMe, or you need to activate, or update, Archive Invalidation. You might also want to read the section about Pink or Missing Textures Section.

Another great resource is Tomlong's site, TESIV:POSItive. She has included information on nearly every aspect of Oblivion you might need help or just be curious about. It has information to suite anyone from beginner to advanced. I urge everyone to bookmark this site and soak up as much information as you possibly can.

**NOTE** SlyvanRuin: Windows Vista and Windows 7 are perfectly capable and acceptable Operating Systems to play Oblivion, and many other games, with. You just need to follow the precautions mentioned previously.

Your welcome, I've only just made the transition from beginner to..... something a little higher when it comes to this stuff :) I know how daunting it all is...

Are you saying the weapon only shows as blocks and colors?

What problem do you mean?

Well, when I go to the location the author instructs for the weapon, all i see are yellow blocks (or shapes of other varieties)

Though i did just notice that i only extracted the .esp file over, should i place everything in the file's folder in the oblivion directory?

Send me a link to where you downloaded the mod from.

Is the place where you get the weapon an already existing place in the game, or is this also a plugin?

You should consider just copy and pasting all of whats in the mods archive to the data folder in the oblivion directory.

here's the link http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29795

as for the location, i'm fairly sure they exsisted before, as the author didn't mention anything about a plug-in, though in my nebie-ness, i think i downloaded it twice, i've deleted the 2nd download and everything from the mod's folder is now in the oblivion directory, i'll try again, but as of this post, that's as far as i've gotten

(p.s) I noticed a file in the directory titled "shaders", and I'm just curious if the weapon mod should come with those or not.)

Looks like you just have to merge the Data folder for the mod with your Oblivion data folder. Just copy and paste the data folder into oblivion directory, it will ask if you would like to merge them, say yes. It doesnt overwrite any existing files so you dont have to worry about that...

I myself dont know much abput shaders? Something to do with colors or something :)

Just uninstall the mod, delete all the files that are from the mod from your oblivion directory, and then reinstall it. by merging the data files.

if this doesnt work, it might be vista, but i didnt think it would be that neurotic...

EDIT - Teehee, I found your comment in the comment section :)

Alright (again, sorry for being so needy on this) Once I have the Dante's Scythe file in my Oblivion Directory (P.S I put the file into the first folder that said data.) I just take everything out of it and put it into that folder, to where the Mod's folder is empty, but I can see the individual files (the ones in mod folder) in the data folder along with the other ACTUALL game files such as the Oblivion .esm

(P.S I just noticed something standing back, The blocks are actually a gray exclamation mark inside of a yellow triangle, if that helps)

Woo I may actually be able to offer my first hand of advice, sorry had to, :) . As for the exclamation mark inside the yellow triangle this is usually do to a missing Model / Mesh file i.e. the weapon itself or a modded file cause I ran into that same problem with a mod "Harvest flora" which altered all the models for the plants you can gather for alchemy in oblivion so they look like you actually took something from them. However, said model file may have not been installed/ merged properly if it's showing up as an exclamation mark. When you open the download of the mod "the zipped file" there is a folder called data, inside that is your textures / meshes "the scythe is in these" and the .exp which allows it to actually appear in the game by accessing those data files. As sylvan mentioned copying all those files into your oblivion/data folder will make them all go where they need to be, but in certain cases i had experienced when first loading mods you need to not copy the data folder to the oblivion/data folder, rather the mesh/texture folder into your data folder along with the esp. I'm not going to go through the process of actually activating the mod since your seeing the error markers for the mod which means you got it activated just fine. If you want some screen shots on how to load it ask me as I am taking a few atm to step by step show you if need be. =) Hope this helps a little more. Cheers
