Downloading php files...?

Also check your security settings. Have seen this problem come up sometimes with security software such as antiviruses or other security progs that nest themselves into your browser.

Essentially what is happening, is that your computer is trying to download the website PAGE that the link to the file is on, rather than the file itself. .Php is a webpage form.

Back to update... I have javascript enabled, but... to be honest I don't know how to turn off my firewall on windows 7. IF anyone wants to help me figure that part out, I'd appreciate it, but if not I'll keep trying to find out through google... (hasn't been much help yet, not for me at least...)

Thanks

Ikel

Hiyas Ike :)

Well, I really dont think that windows firewall is the problem, unless its got some kind of setting to disallow downloads from such and such source.

In which case I would think thats more your browser security settings, rather than win firewall.

Question- when you click on a download link, are you left clicking on it, and choosing save? Or are you right clicking on it and choosing save target as? If you're doing the latter, thats the problem. Because save target as, doesnt allow the scripts to run that transfers you from the download page, to the actual file location. Thats what the javascripts do.

Might also help to know which browser you're using to surf the sites here ;)

Good luck :)

When I try to download it internet explorer brings down an error messege that says it's being blocked so I have to allow it to download, whether I right click or left click it opens a few options, "download file, what's the risk?, and information bar help... I'm using the latest version of IE... but I tried downloading it with the right click, nothing changed though...

Thanks for trying to help, I really appreciate it.

yeah, dont do the right click. that won't work with the nexus sites ;)

K, IE I know fairly well, so lets give this a try-

Ok, a couple of things to check.

Open up IE. Hold down the Alt key, and tap the "T" key on your keyboard. From the drop down menu, choose Internet Options.

Once that window opens, look across the top at the tabs. Click on the one that says SECURITY.

Make sure that Internet Zone is the zone that is highlighted, and then go down and click the button that reads Custom Level

A new window will pop open that has a very long list of options for you to scroll through.

Scroll down till you find

Downloads

-- File Download

--- Enable

--- Disable

Make sure that enable is ticked (marked).

Scroll down further, until you find Open Files based on content, not extension

check "Enable"

then click OK.

---------------------

And yeah, like RB said, a lot of users prefer firefox for the sites here. I use opera for the nexus sites, but dont really like it. Its slower, a lot slower, in comparison.

You might also see recommendations to put the nexus sites into the "Trusted" zones for internet. I do not recommend this. Simply for the fact that sometimes some of the companies that run the splash advertisments get some bad ads that we've had troubles with in the past. Some of the adverts have had viruses in them, so putting our sites in the trusted zone isnt a good idea.

Even tho we kill the ads as fast as we can, sometimes a new one is infected and users get a warning about it from their virus scanners before we can kill it. :( :(

See if that helps. good luck and post back if that doesnt do it.
