Sprint Mod Hosed My Keyboard

Decided to try the sprint mod. Installed, but it did not work. Tried remapping to another key, Still nothing. Tried to set back to default (Run key). Game and system locked up and required a hard reboot (power off). When system came back up found out my keyboard has been remapped permanently and some keys do not work (e.g. Backspace, Arrows, Letter 'o', Period, Letter 'g' types letter 'd'.......). Tried system restore, no luck. Tried settings vis regedit (using screen keyboard), nothing. So, right now I am completely hosed and my primary computer is useless.. Am typing this in my netbook. Keyboard is a Logitech MX5500. Mouse is a Logitech MX Revolution, both Bluetooth.

Any ideas? This is my main computer, also used for work, so this is serious.

Thanks.

Fixed it. After trying a number of remapping tools with no luck I went old school and removed and reinstalled the batteries on the keyboard (wireless). Duh. That fixed it. Hopefully, this might help someone else in a similar situation - try the obvious before losing your mind. I am removing the spring mod and 'sprinting' from it as fast as I can.

The mod remapped your keyboard outside of the game?

no mod can change your hardware configuration.

Well, I never had the problem before with my keyboard, and the only thing that changed was that I added that mod before running the game. It was the first time I ever used the mod, it did not work, I tried to remap the sprint key, my computer froze, I rebooted, my keyboard did not work properly (for several hours), I removed the batteries (eventually), allowed it to reset, and it worked again (and has worked fine since). Given the sequence of events, I'd say that SOMETHING happened to my keyboard, when I tried to use the mod, and the events are related. My guess is that there is a problem with the mod and a Bluetooth keyboard, but that is just a guess.

Could just be that your batteries died, transmitting a bad signal that was not interpreted by computer leading to crash.

As your main computer, you really should consider a back up of some sort - if you were troubled this much for a keyboard, what about the more serious issues that can arise, like a hard drive failure? Having the netbook won't prevent data loss if there's no back up of the main, which one should have for any significant documents/data.

Sorry, probably wasn't clear. I only removed and reinserted the same batteries, did not change them out. So, power was fine. Point taken about data. The system has two terabytes of storage in a Raid 1+0 configuration (4 x 500 gig HD), backed up to another external drive, so there is plenty of redundancy for data. This is a home office, and there are three other synced computers here to use in a pinch, so it's not like I would have been down and out, just would have been a pain-in-the-butt to swap things out. Wasn't relevant to the problem, so I did not go into that detail in my post. Had I plugged in one of the USB keyboards that are floating around here, I would have seen right away that the issue was with the Bluetooth keyboard and not a registry setting. Thanks.

Glad to hear you've got some redundancy. I've been in a few home offices where there was no backup at all, and by the initial post it did seem likely that was your case - but glad it isn't.

As for the remapping of keys, first thing that comes to mind is the keyboard utility software, although as I don't bother using my own, you may not have had that installed either. Also, as it can take some time for certain machines to initialize even a usb keyboard on reboot or first attachment, its not unfathomable that the keyboard and/or software had a bit of an issue and needed a reset.

Would like to say it was due to my amazing planning and foresight skills, but it was actually from the "Learn from your mistakes" school. Decided to set up our new server with a lot of speed and redundancy, but didn't want to spend a fortune, so went to a gaming computer site, CyperpowerPC, and configured this system, which is very nice. It is so nice, in fact, that I have violated one of my own rules and installed non-business SW, namely, FONV. Just couldn't resist.

Could be. I actually updated the Setpoint SW that came with the Logitech mouse and keyboard to see if that would help, but it didn't. Just weird how it took a battery pull to fix it. This keyboard has a lot of built-in features - clock, on-bard calculator and the like, so it must have some tiny brain inside that needed to be reset. I should probably invest in another system just for gaming.
