CTD's started today

All of the sudden this morning, I started getting a lot of CTDs. It seems to randomly happen when I quicksave or when the game autosaves. I'm not sure if it has happened on a regular save. Also, before today, rarely did a CTD mean a corrupt save file but today, every CTD has resulted in a corrupt save, sometimes causing an hour or more of lost work. I've started putting saves on much more frequently now because of this but at times, it's almost unplayable. For example, I was going to see Tar-Meena in the Mystic Archives. When you go there, the game autosaves. It crashed 5 times before I was able to go in and talk to her.

 

I use BOSS and keep the master list updated. I also use Wrye Bash and the bashed patch.

 

This started this morning. I was doing some dungeons in Hentai Mania, which are vanilla dungeons that he has changed up a bit. I started getting some crashes every few minutes in one of them so I went back to a previous save from before that dungeon and did not go back to any of Hentai Mania's dungeons after that. Since then, the random CTDs on save have been happening. I also uninstalled Hentai Mania hoping that would help, but it hasn't.

Edit: Just confirmed that it is happening on regular esc menu saves also.

hi, ive got the same thing with some places (notably trying to leave the Goddess store and waterfront player cottage, and trying to leave Cheydinhal mages guild)

 

till its sorted teleporting in and out of places works well

what other mods do you have and are you using wyre bash?

 

meantime you could try teleporting in and out of places with these commands, assuming the CTD happens before it gets to make an autosave after opening doors

Yes, I use Wrye Bash. The CTD is happening as it is saving because there will be a new save in the load menu with the preview showing me in the new location, if applicable, but I can't load that save because it is corrupt.

hey angel, only saw your name after posting, so remembered you had the bash and stuff installed. As Ive got no expertise trouble shooting, only know it sounds similar to my issue of crashes (some when mid way thru autosaving) trying to exit doors to the world space, like the waterfront. Im about to rebuild my patch after adding a couple mods and reinstalling BC without the waterfront, but assume the main problem is the graphics card.

 

btw if Hickory from the other threads reading, thanks again for passing on the list of unknown mods I had to the BOSS team, theyre now recognised on the masterlist.

Looking at your load order, it appears that you are using an outdated version of Streamline (your's is 2.1 when it should be 3.1) so you should definitely update that. You can also try running BOSS, moving the Streamline esp after the bashed patch, and then rebuilding the bashed patch.

 

Also, in general, you should try to avoid using quicksaves or autosaves as it can lead to problems with your saves. You can see if your saves themselves are corrupt by starting a new game without adding or removing any mods and trying to save as soon as you get a chance, if it works without you doing anything, then those saves maybe lost.

I just wanted to touch on this comment above. You do not need to move Streamline below the Bashed Patch. You should run BOSS and leave Streamline where BOSS places it, with the other "utility" type mods. Streamline, and many other utility mods, are considered Load Order independent. This means it matters not one bit where you place the mod it works the same regardless. Put it first, put it in the middle, put it last, put it 23 places above your favorite mod, it doesn't matter. It works the same so it's best to just let BOSS handle it. BOSS is right about 99% of the time. Very rarely if ever will you need to alter the LO BOSS provides you.

Here's an update:

 

I tried going back to a save from before I was doing the Hentai Mania dungeons. It was 12 game play hours earlier but I went back to it and I had already uninstalled the Hentai Mania mod so I didn't go back to those dungeons. For a day or so, it was fine - no CTDs when saving. Then, it started again. I had not installed or uninstalled any new mods when it started again. It happens on all types of saving - quick, auto, and regular saves. I would like to point out that I put 90 game play hours on this game before the original CTDs when saving started. Anytime it CTDs on saving, which is almost every time, that save file is corrupt. One of three things will happen when I try to load that save: 1. A message will pop up saying the save file is corrupt. 2. Or it will CTD when loading that save. 3. Or it will just not load. It will sit on the loading screen until I get impatient - I have waited literally 10 minutes and it doesn't load.

hi :) still cant help with your qn, just adding in conversation, the mod I installed after the previous post (blood and mud) coincidently corrupted all my save files too where clicking continue or load game would say contents missing then crash, just freezing the screen with the arrow cursor stuck. Nothing worked till I reinstalled everything, and still the save games are toast :| Hadnt got far so not a major deal

 

btw if you end up doing a full reinstall starting from scratch, & youd wanto save a few hundred hours on alchemy gathering, see the spoiler

 

 

wrote up this batch file with most of the vanilla and SI ingredients and the master equipment, 500 of two ingredients to get you to apprentice level and 20 store bought feather potions till you level up & make better ones. My philosophy is its not cheating if youve been thru the motions allready and searched the whole game to collect everything a few times before. Just paste it into a notepad text and name it something like alch and save it to oblivion folder (common/oblivion) then ingame in the console type bat alch.txt Youll need couple of the feather potions to move again, it totals about 250 weight
