Ultimat Setups

Have been pondering abit about this, and after playing trough the game once and am on my second run, now with alittle different setup, this is how I see it.

This is what I belive would be optimal

1. Dwarf Warrior (Berserker)

2. Misc Tank, dog is fine tbh

3. You want Wynne ofcourse, good healing and resurrection

4. Well you can't really get rid of morrigan right from the start, and when she gets the last morphing ability she gets really good tbh.

Right now Im haveing

1. Elthunder thats me (Mage)

2. Alistar

3. Whatever the name of the Rogue was

4. Wynne

Works okay, but not what I would call optimal

Okay so, I thought a Rogue could be nice, but they have limited protection and also the locked chests never really have anything interessting (crap choice) - sure they can stealth, but oh what fun to have to spend time sneaking up on people and backstab them etc.

Na, 2 Solid Tanks, Morrigan and Wynne and thats the best choice in my opinion from the short time I have played the game, morrigan is a tradeoff until she gets the last morph really.

Well, thats just my opinon, seems you can more or less have whatever party you want, because atleast on Normal it's not very hard.

I don't think there is an ultimate set up, after so many playthroughs I can't even remember any more. I've found what ever combination I take I win, IF I have the tactics set up well. My present game is a combo I've never used before 3 rogues and a mage, I didn't think they would last 5 minutes in a tough fight, but surprisingly enough they are doing better than some previous games using a tank, 2 tanks or a fairly even split and last night I heard a comment from Zev I've never even heard before that was a really nice surprise.

Just for the record I don't use mods to jack up my armour or weapons, only for aesthetic purposes, I've played for so long now I know how all my PC's fight.

For me it really feels like easymood, just because that if just one of your chars make it, the whole party make it, from playing BG were it was over if you'r main char died, this really is simple ;D

Then again Im not really complaining, but it's abit unrealistic, atleast that the rest of the party wakes up if 1 of your teammates wins the fight, still I guess it's because you have so few with res and heal, unlike in BG.

Have you bumped the "Difficulty" setting? I don't even bother with anything except "Nightmare", and when I feel like the next big stretch of the game is going to be tedious, employ the "Nightmare +". mod. (Haven't gone to "Slinks Ravage" because of its known conflicts with some of the later DLC. )

BTW: Not applicable to DA, but some games have an "Ironman Mode". No saves. No re-spawns. Your PC goes down? Game... OVER. (I've never had the intestinal fortitude to play that way.)

Mjeh, I haven't played it on the hardest setting yet, betting that will be a challange still.

About "Hardcore - If player dies Game Over" I have never been a fan of that either, just because I would get to annoyed if I got far and then had to do everything all over again.

I like to save and I save a lot :P just because I hate repeating things I have already done.

Ultimate setup? Hmmm, tough one. I usually play solo with a rogue-blood mage hybrid on nightmare with nightmare+, Slinks Ravage on max settings, an areadata.gda that sets the critter levels at lv 28-49 (I can go to lv 50), custom armor, chromactic arrows and I start at lv 28. I bring the companions along in cities and towns for the banter. The times I am forced to bring a party I use the H key and run on ahead and take care of business.

I have always favoured Warriors, or the thing Equal to it, mages second, never really liked hybrids, even tho they don't need to be worse.

Can't say I want to do any modding yet, Il will get the expansion first, go trough that, and then, who knows.

Stealth and sneaking...boring, Im not the not the petience kind of guy, even tho I guess you could aswell just use it as a Archer.

I seldom spend to much time on one game either, there has been a few exceptions, but I have never modded any game much, I prefer them as they are, unless there is mods making the GFX better, or fixes bugs/glitches etc.

BG2 was probably the game I played the longest if to talk about single player games, did'nt even need to read the dialogues after awhile, when riddles etc came up :P

NWN 2 was okay, but I think they ruined it abit in the expansions, unlike BG2 and Throne of Baal that was a great expansion.

Planescape Torment is still my favourite, but I don't want to play it again, because after haveing played so many games afterwards with so good GFX, Im afraid Il be dissapointed even tho the story was great.

Good Tactics = Win.

For me, I much prefer Rogue. I've played a mage, but Rogue is my choice.

Why?

Lockpicking.

Mages can DL the Lockpick Spells mod, Warriors can use LockBash (but this can result in losing items in the chest you just bashed open) - no subsitute for picking them yourself.

Give Morrigan the Heal spell and it's Win All The Way.

I try to mix up my group as best I can because I want to experience what each character in my party can offer.

The way you spec your character's stats & skills plays a huge role in how effective they are in battle so my personal opinions will probably vary greatly from others.

My personal favorite group setup is:

Me (mage) - Group heals and DPS - I usually initiate combat with a fireball and grease spell

Morrigan - Crowd control and DPS

Leliana (Ranger and she deals with all traps) - Ranged DPS and her animal companions help take hits

Zevran - (Assassin/Duelist and stealth recon when useful) and melee DPS

My least-favorite group setup is:

Me (mage *whatever)

Shale

Alistair

Wynn

In my experience, each battle is a DPS race.

So, even though Wynn is a great healer, she will eventually run out of mana and I really dislike drinking potions.

Even with some of the best gear in the game Alistair still does very little DPS. He has yet to impress me.

Shale is one of my favorite characters, however, I will never group him with both Wynn and Alistair. He is better suited in higher DPS groups.

Oghren and Sten are both good DPS. Either one could substitute for Zevran in my first group choice and the party would still succeed easily.

Dog (place name here) is ok, but never felt like he did any better/worse than any other typical DPS class.

That is my 2 cents worth :)

Have fun trying new things. Spank some of those Darkspawn for me while you're at it.
