"Loghain vs Thedas" case: the third option

... And the need to differentiate meta knowledge from character knowledge (like Anne said, what the writer knows is not what the GW knows).

But isn't that sort of meta-knowledge exactly what a [spoilers] forum exists to discuss?

That said, whoever was responsible for translating "Tranquility" as "Besänftigter" when s/he could have used "Gleichmut" or "Gefühllos", wasn't paying attention.

Not the first and not the last jarring error in localised versions of DAO (and its successors)...

So, how will it be with closing the thread and proverbially going somewhere nice to constructively complain about inefficient translations to move on, guys ? Because the whole discussion I have seen on the last pages pretty much stems from the pitiable fact. And the need to differentiate meta knowledge from character knowledge (like Anne said, what the writer knows is not what the GW knows).

So, why don't you just say: "Sorry!" for your absurd statement? Then we could move on.

I am referring to meta-knowledge of our awareness of the hiccups of Tranquility in a thread regarding a literary work, in other words, what you are saying applies, but the characters involved do not know it all ;).

To repeat it: we know the intricacies of the Tranquility business. We have access to Gaider's posts, books, blog. We know the codex entries err. The characters are bereft of this all. They know the templars and the Chantry are the ones governing the whole thing, that it turns people capable of dreaming into emotionless shells, and that mages fear it. As a writer, I have to differentiate between research I do and what I can "tell" my characters. I must think the way they think, with the given knowledge and emotional luggage, and react accordingly. We were not discussing what Loghain deserves and should undergo. We were talking about what could be the most beneficial solution to those who judge him given their understanding of the situation. As a writer, I also have to care for the story's tension.

The discussion is simply no longer needed here in my humble opinion. I got to a solution I will pursue. Naturally, the posts could be transplanted elsewhere where the interested parties could easily find it.

Rosvita, I really do not believe my statements are "absurd". I created the thread to brainstorm my options for the work, I got what I needed. Why should I continue with it, and how? It would be saddening if you took good intentions in a different way, but I doubt it is the case. You are an adult woman. Your posts led me astray regarding your duration of learning the language, but a neutral subject could have possibly been given much thought. If you have been learning for a long time, it is fine. If not, also fine. I now know not to step in your defense when there are cross-language misunderstandings.

You know very well, Magdalena, that I don't refer to any statements concerning some theories about Loghain but only to your condescending statement about my English skills, condescending, arrogant, overbearing and boastful (and incorrect in substance at that, what everyone who can English and who can read would have noticed). And if not, your English skills were not in the least as good as you believe. You got what you needed? Good to know. You needn't to continue with considerations of content, what seems to be very clear to everybody. How? As I told you before: a simply "sorry" would have done. (Maybe you haven't got the sufficient skills even to read.) But it's not just, that you seem to be unable to bring yourself to do that - no, in addition, now you go the extra mile alleging me no "good intentions", well, carefully rhetorically worded, but anyhow unambiguously. Subtly, indeed. Neutral subject? I love this wording! It's so useful! No need for argumentation. Do you know the pope's thoughts, too? You know the papal infallibility, don't you? I am sure, that you would like it. It's too bad, that they don't accept female popes. Chin up! You still have got your "neutral subject"!

Stepping in my defense? You can't be serious! You are the only person who have been attacking me. Thandal only followed up on my originally statement, because he hadn't been sure what I meant, because he couldn't know the German voiceovers, and I explained it for him. That's it.
