Dex or Str Swords

I noticed there's a mod to make it so swords would use dex as the needed stat, I was wondering if there would be a way to make it Dex or Str, so that my tank could still be able to use swords, also on another subject, does anyone know of a mod that changes the ranger line to something that actually has to do with ranged combat, instead of summoning dumb animals. Anyways thanks for any info, great work on all the awesome mods.

Both of your questions have confused me. Strength is the game's default stat for using swords (and calculating their damage.) No need for a mod.

And the "Ranger" in the Ranger Specialization comes from the same root as "Forest Ranger", (not ranged weapons.) A Ranger's affinity with wild animals and ability to call one to serve as a companion (rather than magically summon one, like a mage's "familiar") has been a part of DnD Lore since pen-and-paper days.

If you're looking for a more powerful set of Archer talents, try: "Awakening in the OC". That will put the new branch from DA:A into the talent tree of DA:O.

I have looked for a mod that does as you ask with no avail. That doesn't mean it isn't out there somewhere. I too wish the longswords would have different requirements...It would make sense for the longsword to have an "either or" requirement for STR or DEX. That way dual wielders wouldn't have to wait so long to use the "good weapons". As far as the ranger goes, using them with a ranged combat of archery only will put your character in a support role. This is fine if you have a tank or two in your party, but will suck if you want to be the primary damage dealer in the party.

@Thandal

I have Awakening in the OC but was unable to find a mod to take the level 20 restrictions off the talents/specs. Is there one to your knowledge?

Ahhh... "Str or Dex used interchangeably" in all weapon calculations for the same character. Well, that kind of defeats the whole purpose of having weapon talent distinctions based on Class, doesn't it? My DW Rogue is better with a pair of high-end daggers than when equipped with even Starfang + Vigilence (any rune buffs being equal.) Having the Dex applied as if it were Str...? Well, "Bigger is Better". :tongue:

And one might view removing the level threshold for certain talents as being equally "balance upsetting". But that's one of the reasons people make/use mods in the first place, isn't it!? To "shake things up!" :laugh:

I expect that the min. level limit is moddable, but haven't dug into the Toolset enough to find where it's set.

It can be made quickly enough. All you need to do is edit the "prereqlevel int" line in the abi_base.gda for Origins and the abi_gxa.gda in Awakenings for whatever talents/spells you want to change and make it what you want.

That's the info i was looking for, i knew it would be some editing i just didn't know which lines i would be looking for, thank you for the feedback.

Also to the others, i want it to be str or dex so my warrior or rogue can use swords, who cares about balance i know i don't, and screw ranger animal crap, there has to be a mod that makes ranger tree useful, if you have extra dog slot you already get a free pet, which counts as member number 5, so why would i need another dumb animal, either way if there's not then i will be making that mod, wish you guys had better tools though like total war, but w/e have a great one thanks again, peace.

As far as ranger goes, unfortunately I never figured out what mod was causing the bug in this pic but an army of critters was certainly useful:

My Wardens In Black armor and weapons mod allows the use of full size blades in both hands at any level. If that isn't to your liking and you know your way around the toolset, you can make any weapon you like the same way by using the Properties function and setting Special to "No Attributes Required."

I have to agree with you completely on that, I've never gotten that bug, but having an army at you're back is pretty tight, i wonder if there's a way to tweak the max number of characters you can have, like in FO3, haven't looked for any tools yet, I'm hoping there similar, i hate having to learn new programs from scratch, reading tutorials is so boring, but w/e, thanks again for the feedback and the kick A$$ pic.
