Texture Issues

Some of the bushes in my game are missing a texture and are just a cluster of purple squares. Do to the fact that the problem is with one or two types of bushes I have ruled out all of my mods that do not affect the game world such as Armor, Weapons, Races, etc. and narrowed it down to a few likely suspects and reinstalled all of them and checked the load order with no luck. I was hoping someone would recognize the texture I am missing or a mod that would simply allow me to replace it.

These are my mods that affect the game world and would be the culprit:

Animated Window Lighting System - Meshes 5.3.5

Animated Window Lighting System - Textures 5.2.0

Better Cities 4.8.4

Better Cities Permanent Resources 4.7.0

Better Cities Resources 4.8.1

Darker Canopy Shadows

Dungeons of Ivellon

Enhanced Vegetation HD Textures

Enhanced Water HD Vanilla & SI

Landscape HD LOD

Qarl Texture Pack3 Full v1.3

Streamline V1.0

Unique Landscapes Compilation 1.6.0

Like I said I have tried reinstalling all of these to no avail and I do not want to completely reinstall Oblivion so even if someone knows of a texture mod for plants to just cover it up I would be happy.

It's obviously an issue with one of your mods or texture packs you have installed. All vanilla textures are stored in a BSA and the game would revert back to those unless a mod is calling on, and expecting there to be, another texture in a different location. Better Cities, Qarls and Enhanced Vegetation stick out as the most likely possibilities on the small list you provided.

First I advise you read and follow the steps below about Archive Invalidation.

[/line]

Missing Textures |

Scroll down to the Pink or Missing Textures Section.

You likely need Archive Invalidation.

TESIV:POSItive -- Excellent resource site loaded with information for the beginner to advanced user.

[/line]

Next you should install FormID Finder or RefScope along side Conscribe to find information about the objects in-game that are missing resources. Both of the aforementioned utilities will list the file path to the object(s) in question and list which mods, if any, are using them.

The three utilities mentioned above are essential to finding information in-game related to mod conflicts and missing resources. Those are some of the very first things I install when setting up Oblivion each time I re-install. Conscribe just silently works in the background by logging information to a text file. It has many options though to set it up specifically. For example it will create logs on a mod to mod basis and a full "general" log. FormID Finder and RefScope both require ESPs to work but it's well worth the two slots to have this information available at the drop of a dime. So unless you're near the 255 ESP limit I suggest leaving them in your LO full time. You can always just exit and install them anytime you have an issue but what about those random non-reproducible, intermittent, seemingly one-time occurances? It's great to be able to immediately press a combination of keys and draw full information about any character or object at the drop of a dime.

That will get you going in the right direction. If you cannot figure it out on your own post the FormID Finder report here and myself or someone else can take a look and likely point you in the right direction to resolve this.

Good luck!

Thank you for the help I looked into it and I suppose the problem was Archive Invalidation. I guess a previous mod that I had at one point but uninstalled had altered that texture and it did not revert back to the standard Vanilla texture. I actually turned Archive Invalidation off with OBMM and I have BSA-redirection on and that seems to solve the problem without mucking up anything else to my knowledge.

Going to play for a few hours today and hopefully I don't run into any more notorious purple squares.

This thread was of interest to me for while I haven't run into any missing textures, I am running into missing meshes almost constantly. I know its one or possibly more of my mods, of which I don't have that many so your recommendations above were of considerable interest to me, so thank you for replying to the original thread in the first place.

I found FormFinder's and Refscope's qualities to have obvious value, as you said, the fact that you can get relevant information id-ing the source culprit with the press of a button to be very useful, I'm unsure how I would go about using that information properly. Unfortunately, being a bit of a retard when it comes to this stuff, though I checked out the TESIV site as per your recommendation, I didn't come across a section that seemed to point out what to do once you know which mesh you're missing.

<quick note: I've gotten familiar with how to use OBMM, BSA-redirect through it, and make use of Wyre and made sure not to impliment the BSA invalidation thingy in both, so I'm fairly certain that I'm missing meshes once I've managed to id them, I just don't know the first thing about repairing such missing meshes once I know which ones they are>

I was wondering if I could impose upon you (or some other person who might know) which tutorial, thread, or other resource you could point me at that would instruct me on what to do. Or if you could easily sum it up in a reply here, either would be of considerable help.

Post the detailed information (Conscribe log is best) you receive from FormID Finder, or RefScope, about one of your missing meshes here. This way I'll have a specific example to use to try and illustrate how to make use of the information, and in the end help you find the root cause and fix the issue.

Hi again Smooth613;

First, let me say again a warm thank you for your efforts in advance, it is the willingness of you and others like you in aiding people like me that make both Oblivion and this site such a positive experience. I made use of Conscribe's perload logging, if the below is sufficient, great, if not, instruct and I will faithfully obey them.

RL: loaded RealisticLeveling.ini

RL: recalculating all attributes

Supreme Magicka Initialised Succesfully

D Dai-Katana of Sparks(0202A700) from mod 02:Francesco's Optional New Items Add-On.esm

Enchantment: 00037F7B from mod 00:Oblivion.esm

**Warning**, Mesh not Found, expected location: Meshes\Francesco\weapons\SevArmory\irondaikatana.nif

Icon: Textures\Menus\Icons\Weapons\AkaviriLongsword.dds

BL Bronze Chain Boots(020011EB) from mod 02:Francesco's Optional New Items Add-On.esm

**Warning**, Mesh not Found, expected location: Meshes\Francesco\Francesco\Armor\ravenwear\rw02\m\rwboots02_gnd.nif

**Warning**, Icon not Found, expected location: Textures\Menus\Icons\Francesco\armor\ravenwear\rw02\m\rwboots02.dds

Prior to the proof of this recorded instance, I ran across several instances of meshes missing, each time upon using Refscope within the game, it was Francesco's Optional New Items Add-on.esm that was the culprit. I have a total of 56 mods running, playing with FCOM/Supreme Magicka and the only recurring issue has been these missing meshes. Up till your recommendation of using Refscope, I have been in the dark until just now as to what exactly is the problem. Looking forward to learning from your example and once again, a very warm thanks for your efforts.

You're missing resources related to FCOM. Either it's improperly installed or you haven't downloaded all the necessary files to properly set up FCOM. Specific to this case is "Franseco's Optional New Items Add-On.esm" is looking for resources that are simply not there. Once you download and install Frans New-Items you need to rename the BSA to "FCOM_Convergence_FraNewItems.bsa" (no quotes) or the game will not recognize the new files contained within that BSA. If you never downloaded and installed Frans Resources that would explain the issue also. As you've already noticed everything is pointing to Fran's Optional New Items. The relevant info is first the name of the item and the mod that it's from. The next two lines are where it is looking for the meshes and/or textures to display in game.

BL Bronze Chain Boots(020011EB) from mod 02:Francesco's Optional New Items Add-On.esm

**Warning**, Mesh not Found, expected location: Meshes\Francesco\Francesco\Armor\ravenwear\rw02\m\rwboots02_gnd.nif

**Warning**, Icon not Found, expected location: Textures\Menus\Icons\Francesco\armor\ravenwear\rw02\m\rwboots02.dds

The ESP file is expecting the meshes and textures to be at that specific location in your Oblivion\Data folder, and when they're not it shows the missing mesh icon you're seeing in-game. Anytime you get an error like this you need to check that file-path to see if the file exists in that location. If it does exist in that location then it should show up in-game. If it's not in the loose files, which in this case it's likely not, the file will be in a BSA, with the same structure. A BSA is just an archive, Bethesda Softworks Archive, and it's basically just like any other archive like those that you can create with 7zip or WinRAR, etc... FCOM uses a handful of BSAs to distribute the files needed to properly run the mod. There are many benefits to using BSAs over loose files especially when there are excessive amounts of files, such as with FCOM. It's just plain neater and easier to install/uninstall when in a BSA.

The files you're having errors with are in a BSA that should be named "FCOM_Convergence_FraNewItems.bsa", as mentioned previously. Without the quotes of course. The way Oblivion knows to read files from BSAs is rather simple. The first part of the name must match an active ESP file, then you can follow with whatever you wish. In this case the ESP would be FCOM_Convergence.esp and the follow up distinctive name is FraNewItems. This is why it is required that you rename the BSA, otherwise the game will not load the resources. For example: If the BSA is named FraNewItems.bsa it's not going to get loaded by the game. Reason being: There is no such ESP as "FraNewItems.esp". I hope that makes sense and explains why you must properly rename the ESP.

The Official FCOM Convergence and UFCOM Thread covers proper installation of FCOM and the renaming procedure of certain files. That thread and the guides within can explain it much better than I. You'll need to follow the instructions posted there to ensure you have properly installed and setup FCOM. Maybe you have installed everything but you just forgot to rename the BSA? If that's the case simply renaming it proper will fix your issue. If you haven't installed it well it's time to do so.

Below are some links you'll find useful specific to your situation and some additional information.

FCOM Convergence and UFCOM Official Thread -- Everything you need to know about properly installing FCOM is here.

Optimized Franseco's Resources -- Download for the optimized Items and Creatures files. Items is what's presenting the problem in your case.

Optimized Fran's New Items -- Only Fran's Items in this download.

I suggest you follow the Official FCOM thread step-by-step to ensure you have FCOM and all of the necessary resources properly installed and named. This is likely where your problem lies.

Another great resource is Tomlong's site, TESIV:POSItive. She has included information on nearly every aspect of Oblivion you might need help with or just be curious about. You'll find plenty of troubleshooting advice, installation procedures, FCOM help, Wrye Bash help, etc... It has information to suit anyone from beginner to advanced. I urge everyone to bookmark this site and soak up as much information as you possibly can.

Please report back with your progress!

Hi again Smooth613;

Wow bud, you way over delivered there, again HUGE thanks for all that. I followed up on the links you provided me, downloaded the BSA as per your suggestion and you were absolutely correct, I was missing that file though I thought I had tracked down all the files I needed, that one had slipped my initial net. I spent a couple of hours testing some various saves after installing the missing BSA and all the missing meshes in those saves are now properly present, so it seems like this has been fixed (one never knows for certain till something else pops up right  ).

However, I wanted to also add, that I found the TESIVPositive extremely informative. I spent several hours there today digging in their files and learning quite a bit as a result. I dug into my Oblivion game and wound up cleaning up a lot of things that I had misunderstood before about how OBMM and Wyre worked, and what it was that I was supposed to have in my game files (and much more importantly, what I was not supposed to have), and I understand now the relation between ESMs and ESPs, etc. I then played for a solid four hours with no missing meshes or CTDs, which despite using Stream, previously I kept encountering at random intervals. It wasn't if Oblivion would crash, it was when (and Murphy made it a point to make sure it would be at the worst time of course), and up till today, I never had such a solid session for that long.

Seriously Man, you made my month with your info and links, I seriously can't thank you enough.
