It originally started of as a quest idea for some kind of powerful Ayleid artifact and it ended up becoming much more. Isle of St. Tinia is a small island far out out in the Topal Bay. Originally it was a unimportant mineral mine, but two factors changed everything for the small island. The first was the sudden discovery of rich gold veins and precious stones in the mines. The second was because of more and more vicious pirate attacks along the coast, merchant ships changed routes and found a safe haven in St. Tinia's natural lagoon and new found guards. As more and more merchants came, the call for a new city to be built became too much and after some investments by more wealthy merchants, the City of New Leyawiin was founded. The city itself (similar to Mont St. Michel in France) was protected by low walls and Fort Bellamonte (named after one of the most prestigious merchant families that had funded much of the building on the Isle), unique for it's state of the art weapon:the cannon. Everyone on the island prospered, from wealthy merchants and the Commander of Fort Bellamonte down to the mine workers, laborers and even thieves. Everything seemed perfect for the inhabitants of the island, until one day a some of the miners who had been excavating under the Fort became deathly sick. Nothing could alleviate their suffering and any healing magic performed on them not only harmed the miners, but also the spellcasters, whose misguided attempts at healing made them the harbingers of the disease. As it the plague spread and people fled for their lives, the pirates who had once made a killing in pillaging the coast before the success of New Leyawiin, attacked with their entire fleet. The battle was one sided and the pirates robbed and stole from each ship before sinking them to the bottom of the bay.. One ship, the Cez' Arran, tried to make it to Bravil to sell their booty to the corrupt count. However, the plague(which the pirates contracted when they plundered the ships of the fleeing townspeople) had other plans, and soon the plague ship(now riding on currents) drifting into the Imperial Waterfront. The player hears about this by asking around the city for rumors. Citizens say that a ship got beached near the Waterfront, but that guards have locked down the entire area, moving all the citizens in that area to the various inns in the City. Upon finding the ship, the guards will be hostile towards the player, telling him/her to leave immediately. However the elderly head of the investigation sees promise in the player and pulls him away from the ship to the tent that serves as their command center.Speaking to him privately, he offers the player a position in the investigation as the first to go into the plague ship.
