VonCrown
Mod I'm working on, aiming to add a small town with quirky npcs under oppressive (and quite insane) rule from a nearby castle. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The town of Brackenmoor, (http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/image.php?id=76466), is damp, cramped, and cold, an old mining settlement on an island somewhere off the coast around Leyawiin and Black Marsh (safely in it's own worldspace, to avoid conflicts). As if the weather wasn't bad enough, the town is attacked regularly by raiders from a nearby castle, a wholesale slaughter few survive. But the kindly local priest, an unusual man in his own right, manages to keep himself well defended in his chapel on the hill, and with uncommon mastery of the healing arts manages to restore life to those fallen the previous night. This bleak existence has taken it's toll on many of the citizens, driving many to near-madness. The sole surviving member of the local Mage's Guild devises highly efficient, if a bit suicidal, spells. The eldest of the three brothers who make up the town guard goes about his work wit ha grim determination bordering on sociopathy. And rumors persist about the local pie shop and the man who rents the room above... These squalid streets filled with dark alleys and secret entrances may already be appealing enough to the larceny-minded among you, but those of a more heroic (and/or violent) mind are likely to take more interest in the castle itself (http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/image.php?id=76468), a sprawling behemoth hewn from the stark cliffs of the isle. A veritable labyrinth of hidden doors and mind-boggling puzzles (hopefully), and quite haunted to boot. But braving the hordes of undead (and other creatures) and perilous pitfalls is not without reward, for it's said that the castle holds a great many unique and curious treasures as well. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was inspired to make this mod while replaying Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and thinking how I loved the huge, non-linear dungeon it took place in. I've been working on it for a week or so now, and feel like I've been making good progress. I'm having some technical issues with editing AI, but I don't intend to let that stop me. This topic is to generate interest, of course, but also to bounce ideas and hopefully get someone who's better then me at making new models. While I've got a lot of great modder's resources already, I've got some ideas here and there that I don't have anything near. So here's what I'm pretty sure of- -Huge nonlinear dungeon with multiple distinct areas, with a focus on exploration and puzzle-solving.-Fancy scripted treasures.-Town with interesting things to steal, and interesting ways to steal them.-A sense of humor, without destroying the atmosphere.-Numerous local flora, some with ingredients with unusual effects. And here are some ideas I'm bouncing around--A sanity system, with both stat penalties and more immersive consequences.-A sewer system under the town, with an obtainable hideout for stealthy types.-A small group of vampires in said sewers, with services and sidequests for vampire characters.-Unusual spells obtained in unusual ways. So, that's what I have to say about that, like I said I'm here for more ideas and what have you. Edited December 18, 2010 by VonCrown
Deleted1848331User
That somehow makes me think of Point Lookout from Fallout 3 lol. An idea I have is that you could make the raiders' leader be the ruler of the town, and behind his throne is stolen items. He could wear this armor to add to the effect of him being a leader :D The sanity system sounds cool, and so do the spells. And of course, who doesn't want a hideout with vampires to kill :D But seriously, The sewer idea is nice if you can get a hideout in there heheh... Other than the idea I said, I can't really think of any others. I'll have to think more so I can give more ideas.
