Antiscamp
I am trying to pull a simple road through the woods from my village to an Inn which is situated out at the main road. I am adding Path Grids accordingly. The problem is that the Blue Spots in the path grid just don't work. I thought the blue spots were meant to be "preferred" for the AI to wander when he walks the road. My guard travelling between the village and the Inn always strays away into the woods and seems to want to choose every other spot available instead of the blue ones. I have those blue ones all the way from his guard barracks (where he leaves for his journey) and up until the Inn door where he's supposed to end the journey. He chooses a Completely ridiculous path instead and even walks a long side-journey only to turn around, he walks into trees and all the usual stupidity as well. Any suggestions? Antiscamp
I also just now removed the blue spots completely and have only regular orange ones. There is no difference at all in the path choice of my character. He still goes the same way. I will now remove all spots at the side of the road completely to make him stay on it with force. Pity that has to be the only solution. I really thought the blue ones meant something.
Antiscamp
Blimey! That did not work either. Because, of two possible paths now out of my town, he chose to wander the second one, then turned around when he noted that it was the longer path and chose to go the right way finally. Once he was on the right path, he worked as he should though, ending up in the Inn and also returning the same way he came later on. I now need to edit the second possibility to exit my town, so he doesn't choose that one at the beginning of his epic journey, but I can't completely remove that path either, for I am going to add an enemy attack on my town in that direction, so I need the Path Grid in that area. Antiscamp
I have now closed off all exits to the village, but obviously forgot one single path which also goes through water. Of course my stupid guard chooses that one instead of the road I've created which goes straight to the Inn. This is a completely absurd situation and I've never experienced such resistance from the AI to use the designed road. It is laughable and only confirms that the blue dots are meant for nothing but create irritation. The stupid guard despises the blue dots and does his best to choose any other available opening, although it leads him into hell. I mean AAAARGH!!!! Antiscamp
So. Finally got it to work. Now there is only one Path Grid system in and out of town. This debacle required 48 hours of me. It did make my town prettier though during the process, as I added a nice little bay on the north side of it where noone's supposed to exit and there is no Path Grid at all. I'm quite pleased with that bay, but not the reason why it got created. Think I'll call it Debacle Bay, actually. - End of monologue -
