SylvanRuin
Ive been running Oblivion on maximum settings for a while now, but just today it all of a sudden strated running mega slow, like Im watching a picture slide show when playing the game. I didnt download any mods between when it was working fine and when it wasnt? Ive done a defrag of my system, I also did a registry clean, the game still runs incredibly slow? Can someone please help...

Qwaxalot
You may be experiencing the A-bomb, caused by many hours on a single character. You can test by starting a new character and checking performance. Wrye Bash can fix this. There's another whose name escapes me.
bben46
A-Bomb = Animation Bomb happens at around 200 hours. Everything slows down when there are animations such as flames or magic effects present. And even more when opening containers. I haven't seen this one in quite a while. Here is a quick fix if that is the problem. http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5127

But ive only really just started Oblivion, not even 100 yet? And its not behaving like the A-bomb, I would be happy to trade whatever this is for the animation glitch. Im trying to follow Bben's page he sent a link to. (That doesnt make sense but you get what I mean) :)
SylvanRuin
Okay, ive done everything Bebens article told me to do, Ive done a clean boot, ive downloaded and installed the latest driver, ive tried turning the sound off, and still nothing is working? This all just happened out of the blue, one minute its working perfectly, the next its terrible, and its practically a new computer as well? This is unbelievable. Edit - This problem is hereby solved. It seems the Nividia driver from the website was not compatible with Alienware, so I installed the specific one from the website. It still doesnt solve the mystery as to why my friver stopped working in the first place... Oh well, this is solved and Im incredibly happy to type those words. :) Edited December 21, 2010 by SylvanRuin
ieraceu
Hey, I'm also having issues similar to the OP. I have defragged my computer, reinstalled the drivers and checked for viruses/spyware/overheating and everything seems fine. My problem does sound like the A-bomb problem (even though I'm only 38 hours in) and used the animation fixer. I loaded up the new save and everything seemed to be back to normal until it froze immediately after loading. I don't know if the freezing has anything to do with running OBSE and Pluggy (since there's no corresponding save files for the new save.) My older saves are fine and I started a new game and its fine as well. And my computer can run everything on max. My laptop: Gateway P-7811FXIntel P8400 @ 2.26GHZ4GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTSWindows 7 64-bit I'm also uploading two pictures. The first is my current save and the second is an older save. Both are taken in the exact same location and video settings. EDIT: Nevermind, the pics are too big for the upload maximum Edited December 21, 2010 by ieraceu
