Valve/Bethesda announce paid modding for Skyrim, more games to follow

As a mod author I don't agree with paid mods nor will I support this, I mean someone could literally just change the stats of the game, make it super easy and have people pay for it when anyone can do that. Modding is a hobby. All of my mods will remain free on steam.

I've said it before, Bethesda is a very lazy company that ended up leaving all the work in the hands of modders. The community itself corrects the errors in the game. So why bother to update the game? It does not equal Rockstar releases updates daily.

First, thanks for donating to your favorite mods, on behalf of modders I thank you. ;) Second, I guess Bethesda's legal team was blinded by "it's our game, our profit". Hence, the horrible 25%/75% split. We aren't talking about big money either. I bet if you put the revenue mods generate up against the sales Skyrim still brings in, the mods are minor pocket change.

Again, a system that rewards the best mods and promotes them to paid status would be great I think. Let the community vote for mods that deserve paid status...but I could be wrong.

The 25/75 split is irksome and sort of condescending. At least 50/50 would create an appearance of equality. As it is now, it looks like modders are the dirty peasants begging for table scraps. Anyway, being a dirty peasant, I guess I can't complain??? ;)

this is a s#*! storm of lawsuits waiting to happen. The modders that like to paste come other company's content into skyrim and the mod generates money, yeah, you're just pissing on your own shoes with that one Bethesda. and a host of other problems are to follow suit. I just wish this is going to be undone quickly.

Good Lord, Robin... I wish I had a single penny to give. But due to my disabilities and the denial of my plea for aid- All I have to share are my love and moral support for this community. I live on hand-outs, and I'm ashamed to admit it. Life is very hard, but if I lost these privileges... (which I paid for) you would be taking away one of the only things I have to live for. God help us. The community I love so passionately is in danger of caving in upon itself. It brings tears to my eyes. :'-(

I can understand why you were inspired to alter the downloading process by attaching a prompt to donate, but as I've said before- I gave the few dollars I had over a year ago to have this Premium membership- which was supposed to grant me the right to download these mods which you offer without incurring additional costs! I swear I'd give...if I only could!

I'm just terrified that this is only the beginning. Please, Robin. Please.

Don't let them force you into a corner.

Please don't sell out on us!!!
