omega7788 Posted April 23, 2015 Share Posted April 23, 2015 Hey guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me, because when I try to google my problem -- the Hakkon DLC freezing -- all I can find are topics about the boss's move that apprently freezes(?) you in place. I am using Patch 7 and I have several mods active (the Patch 6 mod fix seems to work for most of them in Patch 7, too). I have been playing through the regular campaign for a good while now and have had no problems. Note: I am running in borderless windowed mode due to CTD issues during my first (unmodded) play-through. Most of the mods are working, and none are causing problems (those that don't work just...don't seem to work, such as inventory expansion -- it's as if the mod isn't even there). I recently decided to start playing through the DLC. I was able to play the first few minutes, where you're talking to Scout Harding and the professor. However, once I left the research base and got into the rest of the open map, I only made it a few dozen yards down the path before the game froze. The game did not crash to desktop -- it just froze. Couldn't access menu, etc. Ended up closing the game by ALT+TAB and using the Task Manager. Started the game back up, had the same problem. It's never the same amount of time or the same distance or spot; it seems to be completely random, but it's always only a very short period of time, maybe 3 minutes or so. To test, I loaded the save within the DLC and, before it froze again, I used the menu to fast-travel back to Skyhold. I've done a few non-DLC missions since then and can confirm that the main game is unaffected. I have attempted to "fix" the problem by deactivating all of the mods and re-merging with only the official patch active. I also tried overwriting the merged file and data folder with my unmodded vanilla backup files. Neither attempt appeared to have any effect on the problem I was having. However, I will openly admit that I'm a novice at using the DAI mod manager and may have not done it correctly. With this problem, the DLC is completely unplayable. Does anyone have any suggestions? Nope...ended up deleting my mods, repairing the game files (via Origin), and playing through the DLC without mods. However, I'm not sure I was doing the modding process right at the time. Not long after I completed the DLC, I realized that I'd made some wrong in-game decisions much earlier in the game, so I dropped that play-through and started all over again from scratch. This time I think I had a better handle on how to install the mods and such, but I have not yet gotten to the DLC again (it's level 20+, I'm level 12) to test it. I'll update again once I get a chance to test the DLC. I might try it tonight...set on easy difficulty so maybe I don't die before it has a chance to freeze, lol. omega7788 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Share Posted May 19, 2015 Sorry, just realized that I never came back and reported results. This time around I can't do anything in the DLC at all. I use the map to travel to the Frostbacks, get the standard loading screen, but as soon as the loading screen goes away I get a complete crash to desktop with no error message.
