What does body "Type" mean

Looking through the mesh and texture mods, I see a lot that say Type 3 or Type V. What does this mean? Are these used by difference NPC's in the game?

Also, installation wise, some of these basically just say to copy into the textures folder or wherever and don't have an .esm or anything. Is the FOMM not aware/supporting of these type mods?

Thanks!

The different "Types" are actually the various Female bodies that you can employ although you can really only use one, unless you plan on creating custom races to use each one. Type 3 is the most supported female body though, being that it has the most modifications using it as a basis. Mods that don't use esp or esm are generally replacers as in they replace pre-existing meshes and textures. FOMM isn't necessary to install such things, however, you do require archiveinvalidation which FOMM can do.

So if I installed the Type 5 body, I couldn't use any of the other Type 3 mods?

Also, these body/texture mods effect every female character in the game?

Thanks for your help!!

You can, Type 3 and Type 5 are texture mapped the same. You can still use Type 3 mods regardless of what ever body you are using, however, you will have texturing problems on the body if the textures aren't Type 3 compatible. Generally, the textures will effect every female or male if they use those textures. In Fallout, if you install a texture mod for females, it will effect all the females since they all use the same body texture besides raiders and so on. You can change that with GECK.
