DarthGizka
I've been using the "Uber Mod" to make changes to Defaultgamecore.ini and "pushing" it into the game executable, and everything has been working fine. I've been mostly playing around with changing the perk trees mostly for my own amusement, and I've confirmed everything I've tried has been working. This is the vanilla game with only the "Uber Mod" installed, and based on my research, what the mod does is it forces the Xcom executable to recompile the ini files every time at startup, and that's what I've seen. I've made changes to defaultgamecore.ini and seen the changes take effect in the perk trees. I've recently added "in the zone" to the Assault Perk tree, and after a shot at a uncovered thin man, I still didn't get "in the zone". My question is this. what else do I need to do to give "in the zone" to a non-sniper class other than add the perk to the tree? I didn't see anything in the Weapon section for the plasma sniper rifle to indicate it is weapon dependent, so I'm a bit baffled. I also have a question about editing class stats. Modifying the movement, accuracy and hp all worked flawlessly. But I made a modification to "defense" and didn't see the change in the soldier stat's screen. Have people made changes to the defense values on the defaultgamecore.ini and seen the changes in the soldier stat's screen? If not, where should I have been looking to confirm the changes have taken effect? Thanks for answering my questions! :)
dubiousintent
Have you read the wiki article "XCOM:EU Perks" for known limitations? In particular note the differences and interaction between "perks" and "abilities". Just an FYI: changes to loose INI and UPK files are not "recompiled" by the executable. When you have enabled INI loading it simply reads the loose files in preference to those embedded in the EXE. This is preferable to making changes directly to the EXE as it enables changes to the size of the files. -Dubious- Edited April 26, 2015 by dubiousintent
DarthGizka
Actually I have read this article. The article claims that "in the zone works for all classes" and that's why I thought I could simply add the perk to defaultgamecore.ini and have it work. However, this article may be out of date. For example, it claims Bulletswarm only works for heavy, which we know is out of date once EW implemented Training Roulette, as the UFOpedia lists Bulletswarm as one of the possible perks you may get assigned. I've also read posts by people who have used Training Roulette and they mention getting Bullletswarm. Thanks for the info on "enabled ini loading" as I simply wasn't sure what exactly was the method used to load the loose ini files.. :)
DarthGizka
I've decided to go another strategic route for my own brand of super soldiers. Giving my assaults and heavys both "Will to Survive" and "Extra Conditioning" and getting chitin plating and battle stims will reduce any damage they take to around 2-5 per hit. At that point I anticipate no problems. :) I may need to look at Long War soon, as I think that a group of superior soldiers should be fun to pit against the horrible waves of Aliens I've seen in BeagleRush's videos of his playthough for Long War. Long War has automatic ini loading, correct? :) And GIANT Crysslids! :D It would be fun to pit my modified Heavys with Aggression and Bring 'Em On enhanced Heavy Plasmas against Long War Alien Wave attacks... :D
dubiousintent
All the wiki articles could stand to be updated. However, one must bear in mind that EW (and mods like LW, and the use of various optional components like Training Roulette) need to be treated as if separate games. Vanilla EU still limits Bulletswarm to the heavy. Obviously there are some other limitations imposed by EW if simply adding ITZ to a class' perks doesn't work. The wiki articles depend upon mod makers and code divers to update those dependencies as they discover them. Anyone can edit a wiki article. Or let me know and I'll do it for them. -Dubious-
DarthGizka
Yeah, that's what I thought, and that's why I've decided not to go further with this. Thanks Dubious. ;)
