SecretStash
I'm playing through for the third time now, and although I've installed tons of mods, none have been installed since my first play-through. I've also put in about 40+ additional hours on my second play-through with no crashes. On my 3rd play-through now and in all 3 cases I've visited the New Vegas Medical Clinic to get implants installed. For some reason though, when I say I want an implant, pay for it and the 'fade-to-black' implantation occurs I get a CTD. I've tried disabling all my mods, running with and without both NVSE and FOMM, launching from steam. I'm not sure off hand where else to readily initiate a 'fade-to-black' cutscene to test if it has to do specifically with getting an implant or the fade out itself. Anyone else have this problem or ideas as to what might be causing it and/or solutions?THX
blove
From the console: imod FadeToBlackISFX To remove: rimod FadeToBlackISFX If you just want to test the implant fade to black: startquest ImplantTimerQuest
secksegai
First thing that comes to mind is a mod problem, depending on how many mods you've got and where you saved will make it more difficult to test with the commands above.
SecretStash
The odd thing about the mods is that I've installed none nor changed any since 1st playthrough, but I'm of course thinking mod issue somewhere as well. I'll give the commands a try and get back to you with results. Thanks.

Yeah, with the game world so large, either you did something (or several things) different or a patch caused some instability with a mod/mods. CredibleJoe
I'm getting a similar problem, with 2 differences. I'm talking to Ranger Grant in the "You'll know when it happens" quest with Yes-Man, and it partially fades back to view. There's lag as Ranger Grant tries to talk to me, followed by a CTD. Here's a kicker, though... It's a recent problem. As in, I've talked to Grant on the same save, done (and failed >_>) the quest, and re-loaded to try again. Now I'm getting the CTD every time. I have heard it said - and I have not tested this myself, I wanted to make sure you understood that - I have heard it said that if your timescale is not 30 during certain parts of the game it will cause CTD. These parts include (according to what I have heard): -Fade to black for doctors and dialogue -Elapsed time for travel after certain quest points If you are using a dynamic time mod, make sure the mod author sets the timescale in menu mode as well as in game mode (they will know what this means.) Alternatively you can try and disable the dynamic time mod before trying the implant. If it does not crash, this is your culprit. If you are not running a dynamic time mod, try looking for things which affect stuff during wait/sleep/travel modes or based on your having waited/slept/traveled. Again, I am operating, as I so rarely do, in the land of hearsay on this one. Sorry I do not have more concrete info. Perhaps I will test this, sometime soon. I would think this is it, as every problem I've heard of related to a fade to black always sounds timescale related.
SecretStash
Eureka! I've yet to even try it, but upon reading your mention of timescale I immediate realize that I did manually change the timescale (set timescle to x) for this playthrough and didn't even think twice about it causing any problems as it never caused any for me in FO3. You say 30 is vanilla eh? I'll try reverting and get back to you! Sorry for the delay on testing the other recommended fix, xmas and all, but I'm glad to have waited to get back because I'm 99% certain I'll be able to fix it using the timescale. ::crosses fingers:: -OP SecretStash Update: I set timscale to 30 and boom, worked like a charm. Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to remember to check my timescale if any future issues occur. Thank goodness too, I would've hated reinstalling all my mods/game trying to get it to work. Kudos my friends. Edited December 27, 2010 by SecretStash
