WizardOfAtlantis
Okay, so I'm trying to make a mod that is a custom race with a few presets. I made the original custom race by duplicating an existing, unplayable race, changing its name and noodling with its info. I've added a few presets to the race by creating new npc's, and they show up under the new race all fine and dandy. In game, the race shows up all right and the presets do, too. The thing is, when I go back into the GECK to add to/tweak the mod and I load it up again (FONV esm and my esp are the only ones ticked), and I go into the object window to look at my race and its presets under NPC's, I see not only my presets but a hundred others that weren't there the first time I made the esp. They go from AttackedCaravanPowderGangersGun2 all the way down to WheatonArmoryLvlRaiderGun (you get the point). There's like a hundred editor id's beside the presets I made. Is this...what is this? Did I do something wrong? Seemed pretty straight forward and it even came up perfectly in-game. I don't understand why all of these new entries are there. Help, please! :wallbash: (and thanks in advance for your time)

Hi WizardOfAtlantis, I don't have the New Vegas game, but I know the same problem from my FO3 modding. Searching the internet for a solution, I found the following hint on another forum: "Are these NPCs levelled by any chance? In that case, the NPC inherits its race from a range of base NPCs - in other words it can take on any of the races of the base NPCs. Since there is no single race, the GECK greys-out the race field and fills it with a default value. I have a new race in my mod, and for some reason the GECK chooses to use that as its default value, and that may be what you are seeing too. It doesn't mean anything, the NPC still only takes the races of the base characters." (quoted from a post by Ebony Lawson) I thought I'd pass on this information to you, though it comes a bit late (but I didn't see your post before today). Maybe it helps to understand what's going on and to worry less about it. Anyway, good luck with your new race, if you're still working on it  Saludos, Syncroh X
Quetzlsacatanango
I think any levelled NPC that has 'can be all races' will show up in that list. I have never seen custom races actually show up in game on these NPCs and it's not anything you did wrong or even really a problem at all.

I really appreciate your answers even coming this much later. It shows to never give up hope on something! I'm impressed this was picked up who-knows-how-far-back-it-was. About the race: I ended up using it a lot in-game (was an old person race) and figured, "heck, as long as I don't upload it, if there's a problem it will only affect me.". It never gave me problems in-game, though, or showed strange behavior or anything. If I remember correctly, I downloaded someone else's race (can't remember what) and checked it out in the GECK and saw similar things, so I kinda figured that maybe there was something going on there that was "normal". Thanks again for the information and explanation, guys! http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif
