Is this forum run by dictators?

After reading your "strike system", I was deeply disgusted with the treatment of another 'banned' member for an event neither mentioned or suggested in the "Terms and Conditions" which everybody MUST agree upon before they are allowed to become members. I would like to know why the member in question was banned with out one single warning or official 'strike'.

After hearing of the situation and reading the reson for banning thread, I decided to join these forums to voice my opinions. I think I am entitled to join these forums because I have legit copies of a few of the games these forums accommodate.

Your "Terms of Service" provides for Moderators to ban people without warning, I know that, however I do believe that there should be specific mention of a clear stipulation against mentioning ownership of illegal content. If no content is actually linked to or shared, then why the sudden ban ?

I don't understand what banning without a warning is accomplishing at all. Are you attempting to reduce the amount of illegal content being shared throughout the world ? Are you going to ban people that talk about camera phones in chat because magazine sales are falling due to people photographing the pages they want without purchasing the magazine? Do you ban any links or suggestion of You-Tube in chat because the web site contains illegal content ? I can not see ANY difference in analogy. If its an inappropriate subject, mention it.

It is important to also acknowledge that there may well be rules and etiquette that may not be mentioned here but are still upheld by administrators and moderators of the site.

With the above quote from the "Terms and Conditions", I understand and agree with the use of such a clause but I would have not expected it be used for admitting ownership of illegal content.

To simply ban someone for something as trivial which is not clearly mentioned or suggested in the "Terms and Conditions" is morally wrong. Why not give a warning to inform that person and give them at least one chance of reform?

Where is your Christmas spirit :(

Certain issues are instaban offenses, if you go to chat you will see this:

You must agree to the following rules to continue..

All the site terms of service also apply to the chat room.

Here's a couple of pointers:

  • No talk of piracy
  • No spamming the chat
  • Don't provide links to sites that contain copyrighted material unlawfully or otherwise Not Safe For Work content
  • Don't act like this is the chatroom for 4chan / Something Awful forums / some other chat room or forum you visit that lets you get away with X, Y and Z
  • Do message a member of staff (people with green or red names) if you think the chat is getting out of hand
  • Do realise all the chat is logged, even when no staff are in the chat room

Highlighted the pertenant part for this instance.

The sites/forums/chat have a zero tolerance policy in regard to piracy. Mention it and you are gone, no fis, ands or buts.....you will be shown the door.

So I retract the thread title. I didn't actually use chat.

Now seeing your post, I now know there are more rules.

It would have been nice to know about the second set of rules when reading the Terms and Conditions. After all, the chat is still a part of these forums.

I don't actually see why I am not banned for mentioning these things... If "No talk of piracy" is a rule for chat.. Why not for the forum as well ?

Run the forums how you want..I don't have to like it..

I'm outta here.

There have been in my understanding around 20 people during my time that have called the site moderators and admins "dictators." If you want to break it down.. let's..

Dictator: One who dictates.

Robin: Site owner. Dictates what is on the site and off his own tab and time allows people to use his features.

So, sure. The site is run by a dictator. But the way you are talking I have a hard time you are even age appropriate for the site anyways.

If you don't like it here you don't have to be here. This site isn't America, nor is it run by an American. There are 2 million people on this site and so far that I know only 20 share your view. There must be a reason that 1,999,980 people disagree with you, mustn't there?

Imagine you invited 2 million people to live in your house rent free. Because there is limited space you need to have a tiny bit more income to be able to feed these 2 million demands. So you offer your best rooms available for an rent, but it's optional. Everyone still can live there free, they don't need the fancy bedrooms. Some accept and yay they helped pay their place. But now you only have 7ish police to help make sure no fights break out, no one steals your stuff and everyone is happy. Do you think they have the time to keep 2 million people happy by saying "Oh, you pirated something. Gotta warn you. Don't do it two more times!" No. Besides, if they don't nip that in the bud then the city will take over your house and kick you out forever. If people are acting out they might get warned, if they're overboard the police just can't spare their time to handle it. You, the owner of the house, the person who pays everyone usage of toiletries and food, are now approached by one person who complains that his police are too harsh to kick people out of the house that they do nothing to contribute to but grief. How would you feel?

That is just my opinions.

Be well, sleep well, fight well, live long.

Welcome the nexus, we're a serious site. Take your fun somewhere else. We don't like your jokes, and if you mention piracy or anything that violates our Terms Of Service we're going to ban you. If you have an opinion we're going to ban you. If you instigate any argument, we ban you.

Have a nice day, also, ***SNIP***.

:3

In all seriousness, even if it is "Fascism", voicing your opinion on it will solve nothing. That's generally how dictatorships work.

Deal w/ it.

Welcome to Nexus. We're a (seriously!) fun site. If you want to share the fun, we'll help. If you're rude, foul-mouthed, deliberately antagonistic, (to the staff or users) or otherwise try to reduce OTHER people's fun, we'll show you the door. Oh, and if you condone, support, admit, or excuse the theft of other people's intellectual property, we'll do it instantly.

(I think I like this place!)

i admit, rules are never entirely fun

but these rules are in place so the nexus can be fun!

if you dont like it, the door does have a handle

besides, a "dictator" as you call the staff forces people into their "place"

the site owner is forcing noone to be here, we are all willing subjects to the NEXUS!

nexus = fun

rules = not fun

rules + nexus = fun and safe nexus!

edit: you dont need any of the games to join the forum, im pretty sure some of the members dotn have, or even hate the games this forum is based on. They just joined because this is a FRIENDLY site full of nice people.

Apparently this fellow who just happened to stumble across this forum, witness a ban, and jump to conclusions is all set being here anyway.

But anyway, on top of what Buddah said, you may have overlooked this part of the ToD:

Through your use of any Nexus site you agree that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening, related to piracy, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of UK law. Know that in severe cases legal action can be taken against you.

So he pretty much broke two agreements at once, on when joining the forum, and one when getting on the chat.
