Soooo what major mods should I use ?

Hi guys !

I first played Fallout 3 when it came out, did a few playthrough but never had the time to play with mods. Now that I've played NV (which disappoint me a little :() I wanna try fallout 3 with mods. I must point out that, althought I didn't play fallout 3 with mods, I used a LOT of mods with morrowind (and that was a lot more epic than today :D), so I'm quite experienced with all the technicality.

I already picked a few minor mods myself (lvl cap, quick start, fellout & such) but I'm beginning to lurk into the major mods. Looking at FOIP I discovered that there isn't a patch for every mod/version to work for every other mod/version, so I'd like some advices about which one to get.

Based on what I saw, I can use FOIP's patch to merge MMM 6.1, FWE 6.03, Project Beauty 2.72 and WMK 1.1.9. Will this work like a charm ?

It seems that there isn't any patch for MMM6 to work with FOOK2 (only MMM RC5), am I wrong ?

Is there anyway to make FOOK2 work with the MMM/FWE/WMK combination ?

Are FOIP's patch backward compatible ? IE if I use the patch for MMM6.1 and FWE6.03 with MMM5 and FWE6.01, will it work ?

Is there another combination of major mods (or other mods that don't need FOIP and won't break stuff) that will greatly improve the gameplay experience ? I'm not particularly looking for beautiful mods (so I can forget about EVE/Project beauty if necessary), if it works it's fine if not it's not a big deal. I'd like a better gameplay, more realistic (with options if possible, I don't really like eating/drinking necessity for example) and overhaul harder.

Now for the last question : if my combination above (MMM, FWE, WMK) works, is there any other mods (or categories of mod) I should not use ? Like avoiding npc replacer, or xp scaling, or stuff like that.

Thx a lot for everyone that will give me advices about that !

Edit : oh and I almost forgot : merry X-mas to everyone !

- MMM6/Fook2 compatability patch can be found in fookunity forum but merging altogether into FWE is the first thing I cannot recommend.

- Book of Earache is perfect matching with FWE; no single CTD happens while catching up the variety of weapons & unique weapons.

- Fellout is already contained in Fook2 as far as I remember.

- FWE has Alternative Start which function same as Quick Start. Also, with FWE exp configuration lv cap is not needed in general.

- Project Beauty is mostly the main culprit of CTDs and various issues when using with big overhauls.

- The best combination I've found is FWE+BoE+MMM+Lings(hair&cosmetic compilation)+DCinteriors. I also added FoTP(Fallout Tactics Plugin) recently but it needs certain modifications to adopt into those.

Have a nice weekend.

Ok I'm bumping this thread to get new informations :

I have currently installed FWE and MMM, so far so good, everything works. I like the new difficulty of the game, the scarce resources, and the fact that I can be killed with only a few bullets like in real lfe. What I don't like is that I have to empty 2 clips on a boar/raider/whatever to kill them. NOT like in real life.

I must point to the face that I've only been testing this build for an hour or so, I'm still level 2, and I didn't tweaked all of the fwe settings, so maybe it can be tweaked. I'm currently downloading Book of Earache to try it, but I don't think it will radically change the settings I need.

So basically, is there a good mod (or fwe settings/preset) compatible with FWE, MMM, BoE (and maybe other weapons mods like 20th century, classic fallout etc...) that will balance the difficulty, making enemies as easily killable than me ? I'd rather up the spawn rate and have more weak enemies than have only a few of them who are un-killable. I'm looking for the realistic side here, I should be able to kill a dog with a shotgun head-shot a close range.

Any ideas ?

Something is wrong there; 5 shots on abdomen can kill a raider and 1 clip is enough to blow a Deathclaw in FWE default setting. But It reminds... I had a same experience after removed few minor mods. Suddenly creatures got extremly tougher somehow; even 2 clips of AR couldn't kill a super mutant brute. I managed to fix it by rearranging mod order and checking few I removed; but still don't know why it happened.

- BoE doesn't change FWE balance since the weapon dmgs are same or slightly below FWE's.

- The damage of 20th Century Weapons is between vanilla and BoE.

- Most CFW weapons are integrated with FWE so didn't test it.

I just witnessed a battle between 4 raiders and a deathclaw (thx MMM for spawning a deathclaw near springvale :P) and they managed to kill it with just one raider dead, so it appears that they can do normal damage.

I have to continue testing, but actually it's almost unplayable... I had 30 bullets for my .32 and ran out of ammo trying to kill a mirelurk ... (granted, there was some missing shot, but still...)

I really like the fact that I can die with a few bullets, but I'd like the same for enemies. One headshot should kill almost anyone (human at least) with almost any weapons...

Ok, I found the reason : I'm stupid. Before installing any mod I set the difficulty to very hard. And well, FWE in very hard mode IS actually very hard (if not impossible). After switching back to normal it seems more playable, I don't get killed by the first raider I meet, I can actually kill them too !

Thx a lot for the help !
