cryocry
Is Mehrunes Razor supposed to kill on one hit all the time, or just sometimes? I have a better version if it kills on one hit all the time... so I hope it is supposed to.
Sypron
Nope, my one from the official mod does it very rarely. I've been using it with my assassin for about 20 lvls, and i've got 19 instant kills.

Hmmm... then I guess Bethesda can't make anything right according to their lore any more... or maybe I just misinerperated the lore.
Strider01
I've read that it's not always a one hit kill with the official Mehrunes Razor, the success rate is calculated according to your luck. The formula used to determine whether Daedric Banishing on Strike kills instantly: DeathChance = PlayerLuck * 0.05 The script then rolls a random number between 0 and 99; if DeathChance is greater than or equal to this number, the dagger kills instantly. Note that PlayerLuck will always be in the range [20, 200]; if outside this range, the dagger script adjusts it to be between 20 and 200.
Guest Tessera
Hmmm... then I guess Bethesda can't make anything right according to their lore any more... or maybe I just misinerperated the lore. I think the misunderstanding is a matter of semantics. There's a definite difference between "can kill enemies in one hit" and "will always kill enemies in one hit." I read the description as "this weapon has a chance to kill in one shot, but only a chance." The rest of the time, it's simply a damned nasty blade. Personally, I'm having more fun with the Umbra sword, although I prefer poisoned daggers (because of their speed). PS - for those who don't own the official mod, you can get a damned nice dagger pretty easily in "Vanilla Oblivion," if you wait until level 25 to do the "Siren's Deception" quest in Anvil. I won't go into any further details, save to say that at lvl 25, you'll have a shot at an enchanted dagger that ranks in the top 10 in terms of base DPS (53.2 DPS at lvl 25+) amongst all blade weapons. It is not a quest reward, so hopefully this isn't a spoiler. For the sake of comparisons, the infamous Umbra sword does 56 DPS at the same level, so this dagger ain't bad at all. PPS - by "base DPS," I'm referring to the weapon's innate damage, not counting any enchants upon it. Obviously, daggers that add fire damage and similar enchants will do even more DPS... but only until the enchantment on the weapon is exhausted. :)
