Can't create another character

So I'm using a character that was a downloaded save. It is level 1 and at the end of the sewers. I already used it once to make a character, but I want to use the same save to make a new character. My problem is whenever I try to change the race, class, or birthsign it just makes me game crash. I don't know what the problem could be.
