FluidConsciousness
If anyone can help solve this problem, they'll be my hero for life. Basically, I've been trying to add mods to my game, but nothing seems to work. I've downloaded the DA Modder, and while I seem to be able to add the files to it, they never actually work in game. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I don't know where I'm messing up. I even tried doing the whole 'Override' thing, but there doesn't seem to be any override folder. I created one as per one of the tutorials, but it didn't do anything. =( I apologize if this is something that's been asked time and time again, but I would really appreciate anyone who can help me with this. Thandal
Welcome, Fluid! First, just to clarify something, there are at least three different meanings for the term "override" when it comes to mods for DA. So it's not clear what you meant above. a. The most common meaning is when referring to the FOLDER that either already exists, or you the player create manually on your system. Many (probably MOST, based on the pure numbers) of the mods for DA work by just putting them into this folder. The path is: "...\[user's docuements]\Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\override"When the instructions for a mod say, "Put it in your override folder." this is where they mean.(And as I said, if it doesn't already exist, just create it.) b. The second meaning is as slang for whatever you've put in that folder, as in:"I have 1.5GB of overrides." c. The third is when referring to a very specific kind of file that is built to work with the utility program "DAO-Modmanager" (DAMM). I prefer DAMM to DAModder (DAM) precisely because it can handle ".override" files. For more help, see my mini-tutorial in the 2nd post here: "Using DA Mods for Dummies". Happy (Modded) Gaming!
FluidConsciousness
Alrighty, I installed the DA Mod Manager, but every time I try to add a mod, it keeps popping up telling me "such and such is not an override". Am I meant to try and convert it? Also, I tried adding mods to the "Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\override" folder, to no avail. Am I supposed to do something in game to make it work? I hope this message clarifies the issues I'm having...it also doesn't help that I'm a complete knob when it comes to this sort of thing. If it helps, the mods I was attempting to install were the zesty love scenes, natural bodies all in one, amazon curves, and more hair options for my characters. Anyone willing to guide me through the setup gets cookies. Edited December 30, 2010 by FluidConsciousness
Thandal
a. Did you read the tutorial? b. Did you read the instructions provided with each of the mods you listed? c. Did you read the instructions for DAMM? d. When you say you "added a mod" to the "...\packages\core\override" folder, do you mean that you extracted it from the ".zip", (or ".rar", or ".7z", or whatever it was) file that it was in, and put the resulting file/folder in the "override", or that you put the compressed one there? e. When DAMM reports a file "is not an override", that means it's not of the special ".override" file type and that you aren't placing the file in question in the right location. Mods which are packaged as a ".dazip" go in one location, and ones packaged as a ".override" go in another. MOST mods are neither, and just get placed in the "...\packages\core\override" folder AFTER BEING UNCOMPRESSED! zesty love scenes; (I presume you mean "Better Sex Cutscenes - Zesty" by Luchaire) is a drop-in to the override folder. natural bodies all in one; requires DAMM, and if you can't find the ".override" file, it means you didn't uncompress it. amazon curves; doesn't work with NBaio, (although there is a version designed for the NON-aio flavour) so not sure why you would want it. more hair options; (presume you mean kzelsama's "More Hairstyles") operates during the Character Creation (CC) phase, in which case you'll need to understand about the "chargenmorphcfg.xml" file as described in the tutorial. (Although technically, if you only have ONE mod that affects the CC, the ".xml" the author provided should be sufficient.)
FluidConsciousness
Whoa! I finally have it working! I think it was because I was putting the wrong sort of files into the file override. I am still finding the CharGenMorph, mostly because I get confused when dealing with the xml files. When I run the program, it doesn't seem to find any xml files. I read the tutorial, and though it is very straightforward, when I try to search for the xml files, it turns up empty. I really appreciate your taking the time to explain. =) I know dealing with computer tards can be extremely annoying.
DarkeWolf
Which hair mod is it? The hair mod itself may not have a chargenmorphcfg.xml file included with it
FluidConsciousness
I actually managed to get the hair mod to work, I'm just checking now to see if I've managed to figure out how to compile the xml files, rather than only having one work.
