CrunchyMoogle
http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8273 I started out downloading version 5 because 6 is labeled as a "beta" but it doesn't work correctly. I decide to download version 6.After downloading it, I get this message: Windows can't open this file: To open this file, Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it. Windows can go online and look it up automatically, or you can manually select it from a list of programs that are installed on your computer. Using the web i downloaded the first recommended program on the list. After it scanned my computer and did it's thing, I downloaded the program again so I would get the option to choose the program from the list. It doesn't event appear. What program can I use to open the file? Is there a better version of this mod? All I want to do is decapitate or slice people in half. I'm not necessarily interested in the other extra stuff. It would be nice to get it all if I could though...
darkedge42392
You need to get 7-zip. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579 It'll open that file.
CrunchyMoogle
You need to get 7-zip. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579 It'll open that file. I seem to already have it on my computer. I can see it in one window, but when I'm manually searching for "what to open with" 7zip does not exist. I give up I'd love to show you what it looks like on my screen. How do I post a picture from my computer? ok I think I figured it out but the window closed. Time to download it again... Site errorThe site has run in to a problem, please look at the error message below... In an effort to stop bandwidth leeching bots members cannot download a file more than 50 times. If you believe you are seeing this in error or can provide a good reason why you have downloaded this file more than 50 times please get in contact with a site admin. HAHAHAHA I clearly have no clue what the hell I'm doing. This 3 step process is clearly too complicated for me to handle. bben46
Sounds like you decided to tackle one of the most difficult mods to get working first. It's a steep learning curve, but if you get this one to work the rest will be easy. How to associate 7-zip to your downloaded compressed files Is it opening with the z-zip program? If not, you likely didn't associate the various types of zip files with 7-zip when you installed it. Instead of reinstalling, try this. From the Windows Desktop, click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Folder options. On the Folder Options screen, click on the File Types tab at the top. You should see a list of program extensions ( the 3 letters after the dot in a file name) and the application that opens them. Scroll down until you find 7Z. click once on it. Below you will see a section labeled "Details for '7Z' extension"under that you will see Opens with - and it should say 7-Zip File manager. If it does, move to the next type. If it does not, then click on the CHANGE block. A pop up should show you a list of programs. 7-Zip should be in the recommended programs. if it is, click on it. If not, click on browse and search your file structure for wherever you installed 7-zip. in the 7-Zip folder, select 7-ZIP 7zFM.exe Scroll on down the file types and find RAR and do the same with it - associate it with the 7-zip file manager (7zFM.exe)Then way down at the bottom of the list, find ZIP and associate it also. If you do not see RAR, don't worry, that just means you don't have any .rar files yet. The important one here is the 7-zip.When you do finally try to run a RAR file, a block will open asking you what you want Windows to open it with, and giving some suggestions. pick 7-zip and it will always open any rar file with the same 7-zip as the others. If 7-zip is not suggested, use the browse function to find the 7zFM.exe and select it. After you have set up the files to associate with 7-zip, click on the Apply block, then the close block. Now whenever you click on a file with the .7z, .rar. or any of the others you have associated with 7-zip, it should automatically open to unzip it. Be sure to set up a folder to put the unzipped file in - a separate folder for each file is best to keep parts from one mod from being confused with parts of another one. CrunchyMoogle
I just logged back on. I'm using windows 7 so everything is a bit different. Ok my sibling helped me out with a few right clicks on the file. Wonderful. The mod crashes my game. What version can I possibly use then?Version 5 wasn't working correctly because the custom spell caused the game to crash. Now it crashes when my file finishes loading. Yes, I loaded a save file that wasn't affected by the 5th version. This can't be good. Even with all mods unchecked My combat is still...stylish. Either 5 or 6 is still active whether or not I have it on. Edited January 1, 2011 by CrunchyMoogle
bben46
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop. ~Lewis Carrol, Alice in Wonderland In this case, the beginning is where you install the game. The best place is NOT the default location (unless you have Win XP) as that allows Vista and Win7 UAC to block mods and other programs.Recommended: C:\Games\Oblivion If you are usingthe steam version, It's best to reinstall the steam client outside of the 'program files' folders. Recomended, C:\Games\Steam. Then all of your steam games will be outside of the UAC protected zone. Note: I do not recomend disabling UAC as that allows certain viruses to trash your computer. If you need it, Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice. Now be sure you have the latest patch as it is needed for many modsLook in the lower left corner when you start the game for your version. The latest patch is v1.2.0146Go here for patches: http://www.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads_01.html Note: The patch is included on the Game of the Year version, as part of the Shivering Isles installation. Next, OBSE is required for many mods also, Get the latest version here: http://obse.silverlock.org/ And the utility programs, get the latest versions.BOSS: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516OBMM: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097Wrye Bash: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368 Don't make the noob mistake of installing a mass of mods all at once and expecting them, to just work. The time you think you save will be more than lost in troubleshooting.Install a few at a time and test - make sure they are working before adding more to the list. And, a troubleshooting tool for when you have a wacky problem and need to make sure it really is a mod causing it: Bben's Oblivion Revert to Vanilla gamehttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=340 And of course, If you have a pirated version, It's a good probability that is your problem.
