Ashes to Ashes - A Mount&Blade: Warband RP

Bjorn One-Eye stepped over the drunkard laying in the muddy and dung filled streets of Dhirim, he spat on the man as he walked by. Mostly out of spite for drunkards but also because he despised Swadians. The Nord pushed the door open with one large scarred hand as he ducked under the doorframe and stepped into the room. He towered over most folk, lending to his name which meant 'Bear' in the ancient tongue. Strapped to his back was a large bearded axe with a worn axe haft. He wore a chainmail coat covered with a bear fur cloak to keep his large frame warm.

He noticed the red-headed woman in armor and donned with a sword. He smiled and shook his head lightly. He was accustomed to many things but he had seen few female blades-for-hire in his time. He turned and closed the door behind him before shaking his fur cloak loose of rainwater as he brushed passed the Knight and approached the bar.

"Ale." He said as he dropped a few denars on the counter. "And a meal." He added before moving to the nearby table and setting his axe on the table next to him as he sat down.

Bellatrix glanced back and forth between the Vaegir and the Swadian Knight, silent for a few moments, before finally giving a heavy sigh, "Suppose it doesn't hurt for you to know. Though it may surprise you...I am of noble blood, myself. The last of my line." She focused on her hands, calloused from countless practices with a blade, "The rest of my kin are all dead. Slain by the king's men." She paused, "Not in this land, mind you...as I told Komolov, I'm not from Calradia. I came here after my surname was no longer welcome in my homeland across the sea. I had hoped to start anew."

She shifted in her seat, straightening the mail sleeves of the hauberk that was slightly too big for her, "So I hired myself out to merchant caravans the past year or so for work. Been on escort trips from Veluca to Narra and back again. Sometimes even as far as Curaw and Praven."

"B'ah! Swaddian or not. There's a black sheep in every herd." - Monksley said in a harsh tone, still going on about the drunkard from earlier. "Oh, but where are my manners... *hic* " The archer stood up, straightened his attire and pulled down his chainmail hood, and walked over to Bellatrix once more and made a slight bow. "My name is Monksley von Harwich, My lady. Pleasure to meet thee. I am also not even remotely notable and frankly - a nobody. Though, I do pride myself on my archery skills, that it's anything special, but I digress. So, what brings someone like you here? Hired blade? Trade? Or is hanging out in a seedy tavern amidst the godsforsaken war an odd pleasure of yours? *hic* Either way, I'm quite curious."

"Well, this is quite the crowd we're attracting." Cameron sighed, exasperated, as he beheld the Nord. "All the more amusing knowing two weeks ago I'd have very likely been given the order to kill half of you." At least. "Fortunately, that is no longer the case." He ate a spoonful of the stew the bartender delivered and noted with delight that it was much better than the ale.

Listening to Bellatrix's tale, he found himself both surprised in some aspects and unsurprised in others. "Nobility, you say? Well, that would explain the fightig ability, I suppose. You say the Kings' men were your would-be assassins? I confess that makes me curious. Morbidly so, perhaps. I wonder, was it a military attack, a siege, perhaps? Or were they veiled under cloak and dagger? I assume you had a keep or castle, which makes me wonder how they got to you successfully." He cleared his throat. "Although, if you were close to your family...you have my condolensces. If they were anything like my own, then I daresay it's good riddance. But I'm ignorant of their nature."

He looked back at the drunkard that introduced himself as Monksley. "Well then, "Monksley," if you didn't hear what the lady had to say, I would say you weren't paying much attention then, were you? Perhaps by minding your surroundings you might answer a few of the many, many questions that are haphazardly floating about your inebriated mind. And you wouldn't be wasting anyone's time asking them, either."

"My apologies. Not all in Swadia are fools, it's true, but we hold a considerable number nevertheless."

Komolov soon found his mug drained entirely of its low-quality contents, and the Vaegir gently set it aside as he straightened his posture, resting his arms upon the stained oaken table; the time for idle fireside chatter had passed. "Yes, yes, yes. Every land has its share of imbeciles. Now, if we have concluded dissecting one another's histories, I would like to offer a proposition of sorts..."

He allowed his statement to rest in the air for a moment before lowering his tone ever so slightly. "You favor the sword, the bow, and ax; I know of ways such a capable knight, sword sister, archer..." Komolov cast his gaze over Cameron, Bellatrix, and even Monksley before he continued, "Could possibly better themselves and also this afflicted land... There should be a decently-sized encampment of bandits not a week's worth of trekking away from this very table. Hearsay has it there might be a price on their heads, and I know for a fact that purging them from the forests in which they skulk would deliver proper justice that the sovereigns of these lands have failed to deliver themselves."

Glancing to Cameron, the Vaegir allowed a smirk to appear on his face. "What say you in rebuking these criminals for their insidiousness and these supposed caretakers of the land for their incompetence by snuffing out this encampment?"

Komolov's gaze then settled on Bellatrix. "What say you in bringing importance and praise back to your name by accomplishing the good that few others nowadays bother to strive towards?"

After that, Komolov went silent; he worried that his attempts at persuasion might have been a little... theatrical, but he meant every word of it.

Bellatrix listened to Komolov's little speech with a brow raised, though she kept her focus on her hands - trying not to notice the dirt and rust that had collected around her fingernails. She gave the Vaegir's proposal a healthy amount of consideration, weighing her options carefully before finally replying, "God knows no one can get anywhere in this land without the approval of the lords. If we manage to bring this lawless band of fools to justice..." she trailed, the gears beginning to work in her mind, "Perhaps our names shall reach the ears of the lords, and then...who knows?" The sword sister grinned devilishly, "But I do know that whatever it is is probably better than escorting merchant caravans."

Bjorn's meal went down while the Monk and Archer make their speeches. When he hears the prospect of gold, of which his coin pouch was nearly empty and the prospect of lordly favor he stood with the ale mug in his hand, he took a drink and nearly heaved. He set the rotten ale aside as he wiped his lips with his arm and approached.

"So long as you give me fair wage I will fight with you woman." He said to the redheaded woman as he came into the fold, his large axe in one giant hand.

Monksley turned to Cameron. " *hic* Now see here, you, I'll have you know, that despite my abundant consumption of alcohol, I am still capable of both sober thoughts and accurate shooting. Why I bet, I can- " The archer paused as he heard Komolov's proposal. "Yes! Verily! I could really go for some adventure. Some extra denars in my purse wouldn't hurt either. Also, by 'week's trekking' do you mean by foot or horseback?"

Bellatrix glanced at the burly Nord, "Well...I'm certain we would welcome the aid of your axe in this endeavor...man." She paused, "As for wages, I only have a few hundred denars on me from my last payment. If you want more than that, you'll have to take it from the bandits themselves." Turning to Monksley, she added, "Certainly by foot. You can make it to Reyvadin in less time than that on horseback, and there are two forests closer that are ideal for housing a hideout."

As she rose from her seat, she asked, "So...do you have horses?"

Bjorn smiled and chuckled loudly. "You are strong of heart, a fine thing. You will have me and my axe without charge. I can find more then enough compensation among the bandits." He chuckled, she was fierce. He respected that. "I apologize m'lady for my disrespect. I meant nothin' by it." Said the burly Nord. "Was just testin' your mettle." He added as he hefted the axe up onto his shoulder. "Aye, I have a horse." He replied when she asked.
