Feltmarskal
You can get i5's for LGA775, but not i7.Source - I have one.And I5 is also fine and about 100$ cheaper, i would totally stick to that if i wanted a good cheap gaming PC. If want a super gamer, stick to the I7 and buy a new mainboard as well. I just built a new computer with an EVGA X58 SLI3 and I7-950 CPU, works like a charm and it is super awesome, though i still need a new GPU for it. :)
prandiningrat
You can get i5's for LGA775, but not i7.Source - I have one. Core i5 designed for 1156 intel socket processor..and also 1155, but this will be available in this month(9jan) with new P67/H67 motherboard chipset (codename sandybridge Processor)..source- Core i5 , Corei5 list and also LGA 775even LGA 775 support i5.. :), but i'm personally not recommend upgrade to i5(only the owner of this thread using 945 chipset) thats bottleneck and won't increase performance..he can use GTX 460 or GTX 470 as suggested above, but if keeping LGA 775 need at least P35 or P45 intel chipset thats would be fine, or newcomer i5 2500K if wish using Windows 8 in 2012...
