paganwannbe
I have received a new computer for Christmas with a 1.5 TB SATA hard drive that is brand new never before used.I have a program on it called HDD Health yesterday it had told me my HDD Health was 99% and now it is telling me it is 60% and I was wondering if anyone could tell me of other ways to check my hard drive status for free and a good free backup service I would be very grateful thanks
jojo man
Does this program not give you some sort of explanation as to why its rating has dropped by 40% in less than 24 hours?

bben46
If the HD is making a grinding noise it has a major problem. Immediately back up anything important on that drive and get it replaced. If the computer came from a store such as Wall mart, they will want to replace the entire computer. If from a store such as Best Buy they will want you to bring it in and let them repair it under warranty. If it was ordered on line, call for their site's return policy before sending it in. Be sure there is nothing on that drive that can embarrass you or be used to prove piracy - clean it before taking or sending it in. Here is another disk analyzer program: http://majorgeeks.com/Passmark_DiskCheckup_d3464.html And a program to wipe files so they cannot be recovered. http://majorgeeks.com/FileKiller_d6558.html

Most HDDs make "grinding noises" when they're in heavy use.Could you link me to the program you use OP? Wouldn't be surprised if be health it meant fragmentation.Oh, are you sure you installed it correctly? It's important for it to be tightly secured in your case. CommanderCrazy
Is it a loud, high pitch grinding? Like a squealing noise? If it is, its screwed. If its just a low key noise, then its the noise of the drive in use, there is no problem.
