Negative Light Sources

I was working on a project where I needed to compensate for the natural exterior illumination. The negative option for a light source seemed ideal for this, but when I tried it, it didn't work. After a little experimentation, I found that the negative light feature does not work at all if the game is set to display in Bloom mode! In HDR mode, it works fine. See the attached screen shots.

BTW, speaking of screen shots, I have found that if antialiasing is set to a non-zero value, you can't make screen shots! If you set it back to zero, then (assuming your .ini file is set correctly) you're back in business. Is this something unique to my system or did everybody else already know this?

Thanks! I couldn't figure why the negative lights worked in the CS, but not in-game. Strange :)

The Anti-aliasing is a system-specific problem that some (including me) are experiencing.

Prolly' has something to do with your graphics-card/Oblivion's communication with it.

@Abramul:

Yes, they can.

Does the same thing apply to the Darkness spell effect?

--SUB: Can an activator have spells running on it?

Unfortunately, I don't know if it applies to the Namira's Shroud spell (the only "darkness" spell I know of). I haven't done that quest. I believe you should be able to attach a spell to an activator through its associated script, but don't ask me how-- I haven't got a clue.

However, your question got me thinking about something that would be way cool--if it can be done. I tried to modify the DARK spell effect (that is named "Do Not Use") by associating a negative light source with it. I then enchanted an amulet with the effect. The idea is that, while the player is wearing the amulet, he would be surrounded by a sphere of darkness that would travel with him! I think that would be a really neat effect, even if it only showed up in HDR mode. Unfortunately, I don't know enough to get it to work. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can make it work. Anybody up for the challenge? 8)

Cool idea! Yeah, sure!

I have another idea I need to test before I start making it with that effect.

Basically, I want a NIF spreading the darkness.
