Elmerion
Yes, I know, the player can sort of "join" factions. But the character still remains a come and go outsider. Don't know if there is such a mod already, but the idea is simple. An alternative start with another character who has nothing to do with The Courier or the main plot. This mod is supposed to let one experience the feeling of being a part of something bigger... a mighty military structure like the NCR or the Legion will do just fine. The life of that soldier you didn't even notice because he is just a low rank who doesn’t give quests. Now I'll give an example. An NCR private is wounded in battle with the legion and delivered to the Mojave Outpost. After recovery (character generation) his new missions await. The character starts the game at around level 10 and doesn't progress much through its course. He has to distribute his skills, keeping in mind that most problems have several possible solutions. Like in Fallout 3 Operation Anchorage the player doesn't have to worry about equipment - before each mission he gets one of the default packages from the arsenal. These items can't be dropped. In addition he can collect trophies to use during the mission. When he returns to the base all extra pieces are turned in for "bonus points". When enough bonus points are accumulated the player can get special favors in the arsenal, like unique versions of his standard equipment. As soon as he gets promoted he'll be able to lead a squad into battle. Squad members can be ordered around and provide special perks which greatly boost certain skills of leader - this actually represents specialists like field medic or demolitions expert doing their jobs but through the players interface. Subordinates are valuable assets and great responsibility: casualties reduce reward points for the missions - which means: directly slow down promotion rate of the player. And so on... and so on... In the end the character will not only have to contribute to the victory against the Legion at the Dam, but also see to the destruction of the NCR new Arch Enemy - The Courier who assassinated Mr. House and took control over New Vegas. ... And finally enjoy his well earned vacation exploring the wasteland, before being summoned by the call of duty once more. The depth of this mod can vary greatly. Providing tactical simulations, diplomacy and intrigue, moral dilemma, allowing friendly ties between characters and changing the face of the world. And most of all - living another exciting life in a world that is too complicated to be viewed from only one perspective!
simplywayne90
I like the idea a bit, love the fact you developed the idea before posting. Anyways, You would like Roleplayers Start And if you don't mind reposting your idea on our quest mod thread, as yours is similar to the Guns of Navarro idea there, and its a great quest idea.Post Ideas For Quest Mods of Any sizeIt's got huge quest ideas, and also has tiny sidequest ideas too. I'm a bit distracted at the moment, so I'll most likely post again later and offer more helpful advice and tips or resources.
Elmerion
Thanks a lot. I can develop it further, plan some interactions, choices and their impact, game mechanics, etc. Have been in games development for 8 years now. Always busy tinkering with some projects during free time as well, tabletop included. The main idea of the mod is to provide entirely different roleplaying experience - by changing the characters place in the world. The original game is planned so that the World is not a dangerous place to survive in - it is a sandbox for the player to have fun with, grow stronger, obtain better equipment and finally reign supreme over all living beings. So the problem is not ot struggle to survive while roleplaying, but to struggle to roleplay with creatures who were never ment to be your enviroment - only exp givers. They either depend on the hero in all their needs or oppose him to be obliterated and provide loot. That is why I thought about diminishing the players role in the world but instead fill his life in the wasteland with unique experience. I suppose it'll also mean changing weapon and armour statistics. In the original game player could enter Caesar's camp and slaughter everyone, but in real life even going out against 3 regular troops could mean an untimely end. This is why it is a game of factions. This is what a squad is meant for.
simplywayne90
Well that appeared in the thread I mentioned, you want to make the game more difficult by increase fight difficulty, and making ammo, weapons, stimpacks, etc more sparse, similar to a scavenging type gameplay like in bioshock where you could repeatidly run out of ammo and plasmids and be forced to sneak and use the wrench until you got more. Then on the story you'd like to create alternate starts and quest lines for various starts. Now I'm guessing here on out, You'd like to make multiple sides to quests? Like the player being the bomb planter and spy for Caesar in the NCR Camp McCarren if hes a legion solider, or play as Victor, etc. Very interesting ideas.
