paulatreides0
I'm interested in trying (operative word here being trying) to make a mod that allows me to have a more interesting alternate start. I've used LAL and RAS, but I found both wanting. LAL doesn't really give you all that much, and while I find RAS better, I don't like many of the starting packs (especially those for magicians). So, I thought this might be an interesting start for modding. I've looked around for tutorials on the web, but I can't really find anything on the topic. I tried perusing the RAS files in CK, but wasn't able to figure much out about how it assigns its stuff - I'm assuming that a lot of it is actually hidden in the compiled scripts, which means they are pretty much impossible to access for third parties. I'm seeking to make either a more substantial version of RAS (except for maybe the random spawns), or something that is more akin to character creation in D&D, where you make your character, "buy" some equipment, maybe even buy up a few basic spells. From looking around the web, I've determined a few things. I know I'll need to edit the main quest both to allow you to do it and to start you off somewhere other than the carriage. If it's not too much trouble, I'd appreciate any help that can be offered on this.
it4edda
Isn't Requiem an overhaul that makes the game more Pen & Paper - like? That was what I thought. Now, I've not used it as I want the non-P&P feel of the game. I could be all wrong, so make sure to look at the overhaul Requiem before installing it. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19281/? it4edda
Svada's Roleplaying Abodes series creates some good starting points for your new character. I personally like the survival camp paired with the mod 28 days later. That gives a great survival experience! Let your imagination do most of the modding.,

Cheers!I don't use requiem, as there are alternatives I prefer in its place. Also, I *only* want an alternate start and not a total overhaul. ErianDragonborn
I tried to change the first quest (MQ101) but found it was very difficult to get a propperly functioning start this way. One hsould be able to do it, but it can also crash the game...I therefore decided to make a start using the COC console command. You can check out my mod. If you like it, you can tweak some settings in CK, or request some changes ;)(lets you choose outfit, location, race, weapon, wealth and where in the main story you start, in order to have random dragon spawns)The 'new game' thing is not changed, since you open a new game through console commands. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65525/? This is a rather safe way of making a new start.

If you click the 'new' button in the main menu, yes.But if you are in the main menu and type in console: 'coc newgame' with the mod installed, it will start a game and teleports you to the cell that is called 'newgame'. You will be a standard dragonborn nord with the iron armor and such. (If you don't know what I mean with coc, give it a try some time. 'coc riverwood' is the most easy to type one I guess...).
