Awakening and Return to Ostagar

Here I have been playing weeks with my human male warrior and male dalish rogue (both with Gilmore) alternating and been trying to save and try the 'good' and 'bad' things.

About the only dlc That interested me was the Ostagar one, actually we did go back there with the zz-debug code. and found I could go back to Kocari wilds and do the little quests there I overlooked and few darkspawn to slay I missed.

I even went back to Lothering to get Sten and Leilana with my elf in the debug code after it was overran. Whether that was wise or not and will affect doesn't seemed to.

And I seen Awakenings on eBay for just 4 bucks, and where would Ostagar be? Is it free? To be truthful I don't won't pay much for old stuff.

I will try the Alley of Murders, Swamp Tower and Infested grounds to add more exp and more playtime as I absolutely don't wanna go to castle and start the end.

My main question is Ostagar and Awakenings intergrated into the world map or do they have to be run separately from the main menu? And if in world map played before the final battle for extra exp and playtime?

Also does the game loop at the end so I can return to the places in Ferelden?

Return to Ostagar is triggered by an event when travelling... after that it's available via the worldmap.

Awakening is selectable via the main screen where you can choose to play Origins or Awakening.

"The Alley of Murders" is of such good quality that I initially thought it was a part of the vanilla game. Definitely play it (and do share your findings - is it possible not to kill either elf?). From current DLCs, at least those I know of, only "The Stone Prisoner" (http://dragonage.bioware.com/dao/addon/#stoneprisoner) and those previously exclusive items (http://social.bioware.com/da2/dlc_bundle/) are freebies. See for yourself which packs can be bought: https://social.bioware.com/page/da1-dlc.

Don't buy any DA game on EBay! They're "used".

Which means the activation codes has already been used on someone else's account.

Which means you're buying a worthless plastic disc, not a game.

As for your other questions:

Yes, playing RtO gives XP that goes to your Party, (as does playing the other two "Main Campaign" DLCs, The Stone Prisoner, and Warden's Keep.)

Yes, you can go back to a few places even after finishing the game. But DAO is not an open-world, so the only places you can go are those that still have open quests. That means; the three Main-Campaign DLC mentioned above, and a few side-quests that you may not have finished.

NOTE: If you never received a given side-quest in the first place, you won't be able to trigger it. And the areas that are closed-off by plot-flags (like Lothering, the Kocari Wilds, parts of the Deep Roads, all of the Circle Tower above the first floor, etc.) remain closed.

Another NOTE: There is a certain chronology to the major DLC.

  • The three Main-Campaign ones (TSP, RtO, and WK) can be played at any time whilst still in DAO, but only within that Main Campaign.
  • Leliana's Song exists independently; its story having occurred prior to the other events.
  • Awakening, Gollems of Amgarrak, and Witch Hunt are (at least designed to be) played sequentially in that order. You cannot take a Warden who has completed a "later" one backwards in time to start an earlier one. (Well, not without haking your saves...)
  • The DLC Which Must Not Be Named never happened, so it doesn't matter.

Another another NOTE: The entire set is available as Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition. Currently priced at US$30 on both EA/Origin and Steam, (the disc version was $22 today on Amazon) but it goes on sale regularly (was just $8 last week.) It may also be available for around $10 from your local retail shop. And at that price, why not get it all?!?

Thanks for all the input.

Well, the only reason I'm playing DAO is because I found it used/cheap in the last chance bin. Oh so the game is someone else's. So the code on booklet will not work on an account I create? I,m happy so far.

I really don't want the game logging on anyway. Seemed DA2 requires that to decrypt your files or something

as I remember.

Yes playing the little mods from this site and altho a little rough has added a lot of exp.

Really?

I just happily happened to find a used copy of Ultimate in the discount bin for a couple of clams and so far I've played Witch Hunt and Leliana's Song, and so what's the big deal? I mean they are just on the puny side as far as gameplay, but they fill in some questions I guess.

At first I thought I got a piece of junk on the 1.04 installation "CAN"T LOAD MODULE" but 1.05 let's me play with no dlc code (it was in the box).
