Train mod help

I would like to see this mod made too. I have my limited knowledge of scripting, at least from the Morrowind days, so I'm not sure what the Fallout engine is capable of, but I imagine that a running train would require moving scripts that make it move along a linear path at a certain speed and distance until it has reached a certain set of coordinates. Then the script would direct it to change course, such as, at a turn. I doubt that the train would actually be using the tracks, per se, but rather, moving along a designated path that happens to be occupied by the tracks. I can see this going wrong where the script ignores direction changes, so the train might just hover "off" the track and fly along the air, or some crazy thing.

Other than that, it just needs some sound effects, and some way to allow the PC to use it (if you like, or if it's just for looks) and that's it.

I find it sad that the NCR supposedly use the monorail to and from the strip, but you never actually see it physically moving around.

The only time I've ever seen a moving, vehicle-type object in any game on this engine is the scene in Fallout 3: Broken Steel where you can ride the Presidential Metro, although I'm sure that's heavily scripted. On the other hand, one could easily build a train system very similar to the monorail to the Strip, even going so far as to have the player buy a ticket that would change the ultimate destination of the exit portal from the train. Couple it with a script that keeps the doors locked for a certain amount of time and you've got a simulated train ride!

I'm new to the GECK, but perhaps in a few weeks I'll do a proof of concept to learn how and if this can be done.

Based on there being so many train tracks in good condition, I suspect that at one time Beth was going to incorporate a train in the game. Then dropped it for some reason. I suspect it was for technical reasons or the scripting was just so huge they didn't have the time.
