drakman667
Hello forum people, Allow me to explain my troubles. After many hours of playing Fallout New Vegas, I'm having trouble with incessant and annoying crashing. This is a rather new occurrence, as up until recently the game has been running fine, and it even runs well right up until the crash on most occasions. I assume that some mod/mods that I've downloaded recently might be causing the problem, but I've yet to figure out just which ones. The problem I'm having with finding out which mod(s) might be the cause of this issue is that recently I downloaded and installed a large number of mods, and am having trouble pinning down the troublemaker. I came here to ask you all for advice on how to proceed on this issue. If anyone needs more information in order to help me out on this, I will gladly oblige and provide it. bben46
Does it crash In a particular place? just when you get close to a certain location(s)At a particular time? like after about 1.5 hours of playWhen you do some particular thing? Like fast travel or entering a buildingThere are likely over a thousand reasons the game will crash, and not all are the games fault. Installing a bunch of mods without bothering to test is a mistake. Try removing all mods and starting over.

alltibad
@helloeverybody My guess would be to uninstall black mountain related mods, and afterwards re-enable them 1 by 1 to see which is causing the crashes.@drakman667 Obsidian are bad coders, I was getting random crashers even before modding my game, my recommandation? incremental save mod. Installing a bunch of mods without bothering to test is a mistake. Try removing all mods and starting over. It doesn't ever crash in a particular place or time, but things like fast traveling, entering buildings, and quicksaving will make it crash. Other times it'll just crash for seemingly no reason. bigbramble
I am getting the same problem but I only had 2 mods enabled, I disabled one so I only have 'perkeverylevel' installed and it still crashes randomly. So its either that mod broken or the game in general still broken.
bivar
I just wanted to piggyback on this message - after 320 plus hours of game time (with no CTDs) I have started crashing every time I try to save. There is no particular area that it crashes in and I don't do anything but hard saves - no quick saves, no saves for sleep, zoning, fast travel, nada. It crashes at exactly the same line of code (see below) and I have deleted all but 7 saves plus the autosave. Judging by the file size issue all of my saves are corrupted andhosed. I am going to try out a new character and see if I have the same problem. If I do then I have no clue. Have I just encountered the evil save bug? FONV_Crashes_011011-------------------------------------- Need some help and/or some ideas on why my system just started crashing during saves. I have played over 320 hours without a single crash and now FONV crashes every time I try to save. These are full blown saves - not quick saves. I have all of the other save settings turned off (sleep, zone, fast travel, etc.) And the crashes just started this afternoon - no new mods, retexes, nada. Even stranger I can pull up a saved file and play just fine, but the instant I click Save I get a CTD. Another oddity is the file size - I went back 5 saves which were about 5153KB file size and after the CTD every save more recent than the one I tried to save has changed to 2264KB file size. My assumption is that any of the reduced save files are hosed and corrupted, but one should never give up hope. Just in case it's relevant this is my 4th play through. Thankfully I had just saved all of my save files to a different directory and I can play around with my existing saves. OS is Windows Vista Home Premium (64)Video Card is an NVidia GTX-260RAM - 9GB ---------------------------------------All 11 crashes have the exact same info (see below): Approx 8:30PM 010911Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: FalloutNV.exe Application Version: 1.2.0.314 Application Timestamp: 4cfdf842 Fault Module Name: FalloutNV.exe Fault Module Version: 1.2.0.314 Fault Module Timestamp: 4cfdf842 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00361b2a OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: fd00 Additional Information 2: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 Additional Information 3: fd00 Additional Information 4: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 ---------------------------------------
bivar
@drakman667 As a starting point you need to download and install FNVEdit if you haven't already. Look for mod conflicts (lots of Red). I would start with the mods that you just downloaded and installed. Sometimes moving mods up and/or down in your loadorder can solve conflicts, sometimes you just have to delete a mod. If you are not using FOMM or NVMM then download and install one of those to manage your mods. FNVEdit and FOMM are your friends and virtually indispensible. Then I would recommend Moving all of your saved games into a new directory then delete everything else in your original Save game directory including Autosave files. Then copy an older game into your save game directory and start your game. Before doing anything else turn off all non-hard saves no Quick saves, no saves on Sleep, Zoning, Fast Travel, etc. Now open the game you moved back into the save game directory and load it - if it runs OK then hit Escape and click Save - if your game saves and doesn't crash, try another even later save until you reach a save that causes a crash. I just resolved my crashing issue using this method - I lost 154 saves and 2 levels but it beats the hell out of losing 1300 saves or starting over. I didn't have any mod conflicts, but apparently some where along the line a save was corrupted and everything went downhill from there. One last thing keep the number of saved games to 50 or less, just copy them to a new directory or delete them. Sometimes you have so many saved games that the game hangs and could cause a crash - YMMV. Anyway, good luck.
waybrane
so i'm seeing where there are a number of ppl having problems. i am not seeing where there are a lot of solutions. i have had a number of crashes at various times, doesn't seem to matter when or where. i have tried a number of settings, updates, and just about everything i can read and try. i find it hard to believe that no fix has been found. my sound is very strange, when i come to a spot where there is to going to be human interaction, i get this sound of like a bee hive, nothing coherent as far as voices like it should be, the other annoying thing is the seemingly random crashes throughout the game. any light that can be shed would be great. i done a number of searches and applied the fixes that everyone has suggested and nothing seems to work. thanks for time and patience, just love the game but the gameplay is very annoying. SuperSledgeNY
Well, I mentioned this in another thread but I started CTD and freezing right after I entered The Strip for the first time. Prior to that, I had mapped out the entire wasteland with no problems but once I entered the Strip, oh baby. I also get an unusually high number of crashes when I swim underwater in first person mode. Changing to third person seems to correct this issue. I have 2 Radeon 5850's in x-fire with the 10.12 drivers. Prior to this I had the latest catalyst drivers posted on the Asus website. I don't remember the exact version of these but they had come out sometime in the spring of 2010. The game happily crashes with either of these drivers installed. The only commonality here is The Strip.
