Changing .7z files to .esp for OBMM

Hi so I am fairly new at modding this game; although I have gotten many mods to work in the past, like a Brotherhood Renewed, and Blessings of Sithis about November of last year I was adding new mods and Obmm would not load them. Up untill this point all the mods I downloaded went straight from my Data file to Obmm but now I have to go through steps to even get the mods to activate much less work. Now to originaly try to fix this I uninstalled all things oblivion and all things Obmm but when I reinstalled everything it didnt change a thing, all the mod data was gone however I still couldnt get the mods to run. Recently to try and fix this I even made the files into esp files using Obmm but they still wont work. Like recently I downloaded Midas Magic and I tryed to put it into my Obmm program, it works but is heavly errored with so many yellow blocks that you walk into the store and the room glows yellow. So if possible could anyone tell me how to, and help me, fix this problem?

Much Obliged

You don't change .7z files to .esp files. They are two completely different file extensions. A .7z file is a compressed archive, much like a .rar or .zip file. Compressed archives require extracting software to extract them. You can use 7zip, WinRAR, etc... I suggest 7zip since it's 100% free and does the job, and does it well. WinRAR is also a very good choice if you want to pay for the full license.

Download 7zip from SourceForge.net

In order to install mods via Oblivion Mod Manager - OBMM, I suggest you check out LHammonds' OBMM How-To.

And finally about your missing mesh problem. The yellow exclamation marks you are seeing is due to missing resources, particularly meshes. This is the result of improperly installed mods or incomplete mod installation. This is likely due to not completely understanding different file types, .esp & .7z, and not properly using OBMM to install the mods. Below is some information about missing resources and more.

Missing Resources |

Scroll down to the Pink or Missing Textures Section.

You likely need Archive Invalidation.

Good luck!

*EDIT* I also just remembered that when you are downloading files a message is displayed stating the following...

Don't know what to do with ZIP, RAR or 7z files after you've downloaded them? Check out our article on file compression basics and what programs to use.
