Dreywen
I recently started playing Oblivion again (the announcement of Skyrim prompted me to revisit it), and the levelling system is bugging me as before. I like maximising my character's power as much as possible, but the way levelling is implemented in Oblivion makes this a micromanaging nightmare. Since you can only increase 3 attributes per level (up to +5), I need pen and paper to keep track of which skills I have increased, to make sure that I don't overtrain any skill. It also severely breaks game immersion as I have to plan my quests and activities (even something as basic as walking) around my skill progression. The alternative would be to give up efficient levelling and make do with skill/attribute waste, which goes against my perfectionist nature. :( I have tried various levelling mods (such as KCAS and Realistic Levelling), but they all change the levelling system too much. For example, attributes are increased on the fly based on some complex formula, instead of you choosing which attributes to raise when you gain a level. This removes some of the RPG-feel of the game for me and changes the game too much for my taste. Personally, I only need two fixes - (1) Allow endurance gains to retroactively increase your health, and (2) Allow unused attribute gains to roll over the next level. These two fixes would suffice to eliminate all the annoying micromanagement for me; I don't need an entire overhaul of the levelling system. Is there any mod which does this?
