Fallout 3 Freezes at helmet screen

Installed Fallout 3 Goty Today, downloaded mods that friends suggested( and a lot of the ones on the top list) but whenever i start up the game it freezes on the helmet screen( right where the hit enter to choose continue/new game/load/etc is). Please help ><

I take it you are using FOMM and that you have FOSE installed as well, what I can suggest is disabling every mod down to Fallout, Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Zeta and start enabling the mods until your game locks up then find out why the mod or mods are stopping it from working, usually its conflicting, or the ESM is loaded before the ESP or something like that. you also might try FO3Edit and remove any conflicts that way.

Ran F03Edit, seems to run through without any major conflicts(gamebreaking), and as the list is so big i'd like to do that last resort ><

well you could disable/enable them in bulk, disable all, then enable the FOOK files and so on to find the batch that is causing the problems and try and keep your esm files at the top of the list and group similar esp files, also check that you have the files in the right place and that there all there

 

you don't have these running all at the same time do you?

you should only use using 2 replaceors that replace the same thing can cause problems, try disabling them so only these are on:

that might be your problem I know I have problems with BzArmors

Did you even try playing the game without mods?

 

I ask this because you just said that you got the GOTY edition and downloaded mods. If you haven't played the game by itself you should first do that to see if your PC can even handle the game, and make a save at the beginning of the game when you do.

 

I say this because this game is really borked with running on computers sometimes, unless you have maybe a really great one, but even when the PC specs are over the requirements, I have heard problems with playing it on PC. So be sure you can run it by itself first. Then if you can go in game and make a save in the game and load it fine, then go back and start slowly adding your mods. That is really the way you should install mods man, one at a time, or at the most in small groups of 2 or 3 at a time.

 

Install a few, go in game and see if it works ok and doesn't break your game. Then go back and repeat the process. Otherwise you will waste your time installing a bunch of crap and not know what caused the problem, like now O.o

 

And trust me, that is not your last resort. Your last resort is reinstalling the whole game because your mods broke it beyond repair. No scratch that, your last resort is throwing your computer out the window.
