That annoying vampire recognition bug

So I'm sure many people know about the vampire lord transformation bug where you transform and do the tutorial and everything seems fine, yet when you go into the main hall everyone says stuff like "morsel" and "meat" and other non-vampire threatening statements. Firstly before anyone has a go at me for posting this as I know there are other threads for this, just realize that I have looked (for ages) and they all just end with the problem unsolved. Basically from what I can tell many people think it is a problem to do with custom races however I don't believe it is as I am not using a custom race for my current play through, just a Nord, yet I still get the bug. I use Better Vampires and have the Unofficial Dawnguard patch as well as Better Vampire Lord Transformation installed. The best suggestion I've seen so far is that its something to do with the factions. If anyone actually knows what this bug is or has any ideas I would really appreciate any help as I really like the vampire quest line and better vampire changes however this bug has already ruined several play through.

I actually just ran into this issue as well. To me it IS a custom race issue. I'm not sure, but the mod you mentioned "Better Vampires" might actually be a custom race? dunno... but what I do know is that I got it to work by sacrificing my custom race to be able to become a vampire.

 

I use the Yakuza tattoo mod, which in order to give you the tattoos, changes you into a "wood elf yakuza theif" (or warrior, or mage) in order to set the new skin(with tattoos) on your character.

 

I tried to "player.setrace woodelfracevampire" and like many people posting online found, change back into my custom race after reverting back from a vampire lord.

 

HERE IS HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE COMPLETELY... (keep in mind you will have to become a vanilla race + Vampire lord)

 

Load a save game from before you accepted the gift of vampirism from Lord Harkon. Open the console using the "~" key above tab.

Type "player.setrace (desired vanilla race)racevampire" without the "s. Example: player.setrace woodelfracevampire then press enter.

Your character will be changed to the base vanilla race and you will now be able to CHANGE INTO A VAMPIRE LORD WITHOUT REVERTING BACK TO YOUR CUSTOM RACE ONCE YOU CHANGE BACK TO NORMAL FORM.

 

It definitely sucks that you can't be a custom race, vampire lord, but pick and play. you can only do what the game allows, and in this case you can't be both. sorry.
