Hi so I am trying to change the mesh path for a first person mesh from the farmerclothes03 folder in the skyrim bsa, specifically I am trying to change the texture path for 1stpersonfarmerrobef_1.nif and 1stpersonfarmerrobef_0.nif

I understand where the texture paths are and I understand how to change them for full armor or whatever else however some first person nifs do not have the dds file\s I want to change in the texture path list

ill provide pictures, below is the nif file 1stpersonfarmerrobef_1.nif specifically its texture paths, it has paths pointing to femalebody_1.dds and etc but it does not have paths pointing to the clothes texture dds torsof_d.dds and tutorials have told me I need to change the first texture file, nope, doesnt work, get missing arms.

Hello,

Try working with this in the Creation Kit instead of NifScope. I'm really new to this myself, and don't know much, but I've picked up a few things, and might be able to help you.

Skyrim is set up so that they could make more than one appearance for a single article of clothing without completely duplicating it, to make it more efficient. So they could use one mesh (a .nif file) and create multiple items from it using the same mesh with different textures.

I just looked at the farmer clothes in the CK, and that's exactly what they did. So the texture you're seeing in the .nif file is only a default. It doesn't apply to all versions of the farmer clothes.

Open the CK, use the open folder icon on the far left to load Skyrim. Double click on Skyrim.esm, then load. Choose "yes to all" through errors. The thing is buggy. It just is.

Open "Armor Add-ons", look for farmer clothes until you find the one you want. Double click on it to open it. It looks like these are all of the vanilla farmer clothes (not counting hats and boots):

Farm02TorsoAA

Farm02VariantAA (female texture: Farmer02VariantClothesF)

Farmer03VariantAA (female texture: Farmer03VariantClothesF)

FarmerExtras03AA

FarmerTorso01AA

FarmerTorso03AA

FarmerTorso04AA

FarmerVariant04AA (female texture: Farmer04VariantClothesF)

There's also this one, but it doesn't appear to be used by anything. (Right click on the item and choose "Use info", it shows you if anything is attached to that item, and if so, what. Or look in the column that says "Users", that one says "0".)

Farm02TorsoVariantAA (female texture: Farmer02VariantClothesF)

Under "Female Biped Model" click on the "Select" button. That'll show you a preview of the outfit, so you can see if it's the one you're interested in. (You may get more errors opening it. It's the CK, it has errors, you'll get used to it.) Look under "Alternate Textures". If you see anything listed there, that texture has to also be used for first person, or it'll be wrong. The trick then, is to see the whole texture name without changing or removing it. (I looked up the female texture names for you for the farm clothes.)

To change the texture under first person, click on the "Select" button under the "Female" section across from "First Person". Double click the line where you want to change the texture. Select the one you want. When you get back out of that, be sure that it looks right in the preview window.

Sometimes there are multiple textures. If so, what has worked for me, is to try setting each one to the same texture, watching in the preview window to see what changes. If it looks right, keep it. If it doesn't, try something else.

- Once you have made a change that you want to keep - Click on the second icon from the left, the picture of a floppy disk, or choose "Save" from the "File" menu. Give your new .esp a name. You've just created a mod for yourself. As you make changes, save it often, the CK is notorious about crashing frequently!

- Next time you want to make changes to your mod, you don't have to select Skyrim.esm. Just select your mod, but then click on "Set as Active File" before you open it.

Sorry if this was long. I'd point you to a tutorial, but I think I picked up bits and pieces from various ones, and some from trial and error. Good luck, hope it helped.
